Information:

Introduction
The chirping noise may be intermittent due to moisture on the drive belts or the accessory drive pulleys. To duplicate the customers concern, spray a small amount of water onto the drive belts if necessary . If spraying water onto the drive belts duplicates the symptom, cleaning the accessory drive pulleys may be the most probable solution.A loose or improper installation of a body or suspension component or other item on the vehicle may also cause the chirping noise.Test Procedure
Verify that there is a chirping noise coming from the belt and not the engine.
Remove the drive belts and operate the engine for less than 30 seconds.
Inspect the drive belt for severe wearing that exceeds one third of the drive belt groove depth.
Clean the accessory drive belt pulleys with a suitable wire brush.
Replace or repair the misaligned accessory drive belt pulleys.
Inspect for a bent or cracked accessory drive bracket. Replace any damaged bracket that is found.
Inspect for incorrect, loose, and/or missing fasteners. Replace any missing fasteners and/or tighten any loose fasteners.
Inspect for a bent accessory drive pulley. Replace any bent accessory drive pulley.
Replace the drive belts.
Clear any codes and run the engine to verify that the problem is resolved.Drive Belt Squeals - Adjust
Introduction
A loose or improper installation of a body, or suspension component, or other items on the vehicle may cause the squeal noise. If the squeal noise is intermittent, verify that the squealing is not the accessory drive components by varying the loads making sure that they are operating to the maximum capacity. An overcharged air conditioning A/C system, a power steering system restriction or the incorrect fluid, or a failing generator are suggested items to inspectTest Procedure
Verify that the noise is not coming from the engine.
Remove the drive belts and operate the engine for less than 30 seconds, this will verify if the squealing noise is related to the drive belts or an accessory drive component.Note: With the drive belts removed the water pump will not operate and the engine may overheat. Also diagnostic trouble codes occur when the engine is operated with the drive belts removed.
Verify that an accessory drive component does not have a seized bearing.
With the belts removed, test the bearings in the accessory drive components for smooth operation.
Test the accessory drive components with the engine operating by varying the load on the accessory drive components to verify that the components are operating properly.
If the drive belt tensioner is not operating properly, proper belt tension may not be achieved to keep the drive belts from slipping which could cause a squeal noise.
Verify that the belt being used is the correct length. Replace a belt that is not the proper length with the appropriate belt.Note: The incorrect length drive belt installed may be routed incorrectly and turning an accessory drive component in the incorrect direction.
Check the alignment of the accessory drive pulleys. Misalignment can be caused by improper mounting or incorrect installation of an accessory drive component.
Test for a misaligned pulley using a straight edge in the pulley grooves across two or three pulleys.
If a misaligned pulley is found, refer to Disassembly and Assembly for the proper removal and installation procedure for the pulley.
Inspect the accessory drive pulleys to verify that the pulleys are the correct diameter or width.Drive Belt Whine - Adjust
Introduction
If the whine is intermittent, verify that it is not the accessory drive components by varying the loads, making sure that they are operating to their maximum capacity. An overcharged air conditioning (A/C) system, a power steering system restriction or the incorrect fluid, or a failing generator is suggested items to inspect.Test Procedure
Verify that there is a chirping noise coming from the belt and not the engine.
Remove the drive belts and operate the engine for less than 30 seconds.
Inspect for a failed accessory drive component bearing. Replace any failed component with a bad bearing.
Clear any codes and run the engine to verify that the problem is resolved.Drive Belt Vibration - Adjust
Introduction
The accessory drive components may have an effect on engine vibration. An overcharged air conditioning (A/C) system, a power steering system restriction, or the incorrect fluid, or an extra load on the generator. To help identify an intermittent or an improper condition, vary the loads on the accessory drive components.Test Procedure
Verify that there is a vibration coming from the belt and not the engine.
Remove the drive belts and operate the engine for less than 30 seconds.
Inspect the drive belts for wear, damage, debris build-up, or missing drive belt ribs. Replace any belt that is damaged.
Inspect for incorrect, loose, or missing fasteners for the drive belt components. Replace or tighten any fasteners that are incorrect or loose.
Inspect for damaged fan blades, or a bent fan clutch shaft. Replace any damaged component that if found.
Inspect for a bent or cracked accessory drive bracket. Replace any damaged bracket that if found.
Clear any codes and run the engine to verify that the problem is resolved.
