Personal injury or death can result from improper maintenance procedures. To avoid injury or death, follow the procedures exactly as stated below.
Climbing equipment may be required to access this service point. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mounting and Dismounting" topic for safety information.
Before servicing/performing maintenance on the machine, electrical power must be physically disconnected; battery plugs must be disconnected from the batteries, or the trailing cable must be unplugged, and warning tags and padlocks shall be applied by a certified electrician. Certified electricians shall perform or direct any electrical work, including any energized testing, repair work in controllers, motors, or other approved compartments, and shall insure that all compartments are properly closed and inspected prior to re-energization. All applicable lock out and tag out procedures must be followed.
Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.
Troubleshooting Procedure
Use the following procedure if a fault is suspected with the battery or the charging circuit.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check the Battery Voltage with the Battery Isolated
A. Turn the battery isolator switch to the OFF position.
B. Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 11V for a 12V system or 22 V for a 24 V system.
At least 11V for a 12V system
At least 22 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The battery voltage is not within the expected range.
Repair: On a 24 V system, check the voltage of the individual batteries.
If a battery discharge tester is available, check the batteries with the battery discharge tester.
Replace the battery or batteries as necessary.
2. Check the Battery Voltage with the Engine Running
A.Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position
B. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run at idle.
C.Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 14V for a 12V system or 27 V for a 24 V system.
At least 14V for a 12V system
At least 27 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result:The battery voltage is not within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check the Battery Voltage After the Engine has been Idling for 10 Minutes
A. Allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes.
B. Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 14V for a 12V system or 27 V for a 24 V system.
At least 14V for a 12V system
At least 27 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The battery voltage is not within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
4. Check the Battery Voltage with Electrical Load Applied
A.Raise the engine speed.
B.Turn on electrical load (worklights for example).
C. Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
