FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Put raw water pump (2) into position on the engine. Install the nuts and washer for studs (1).2. Install the oil supply line between raw water pump (2) and the side of the cylinder block.3. Connect the inlet and outlet water lines to raw water pump (2).Disassemble Raw Water Pump (Earlier Engines)
Start By:a. remove raw water pump FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove bolt and washer (4) from raw water pump shaft. Remove gear (3) with Tool (F).2. Remove housing (2).3. Remove clamp (1). Remove end cover (7). Remove plate (5) from the end cover.4. Remove the cotter pin, nut (6) and washer. Remove impeller with Tool (A) and two 8 mm bolts 50.8 mm (2 in)long or tap the holes and use two5/16 -18 NC x 50.8 mm (2 in)long bolts. 5. Remove O-ring seal (8) and ring (10).6. Remove washer (9) and key (11). Remove plate (12). 7. Remove nuts (14) that hold body (13) to housing (15).8. Use a press to remove housing (15) and shaft (16) from body (13). Remove seal (17).9. Remove the ceramic ring from the body (13) with Tool (B) and a press. 10. Remove the rubber washer from shaft (16). Remove seal (18) with Tool (H). 11. Remove snap ring (19) with Tool (D). 12. Bend back the lock from nut (21). Remove nut (21) with Tool (C). Remove the lock.13. Remove spacer (20). 14. Remove shaft (16) from housing (15) with a press. Do notlet the shaft drop as it is removed.15. Remove the bearing from shaft (16) with a press.16. Remove bearing retainer (22). Remove the bearing from housing (15) with Tool (E) and a press.17. Remove bearing race (23) with Tool (G).Assemble Raw Water Pump (Earlier Engines)

Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Install the bearing race in housing (1) with Tool (B). Install bearing until it is against the shoulder in housing (1). 2. Install the double roller-bearing (2) in housing (1) with Tool (C) and a press. Install the bearing until it is against the shoulder in housing (1). 3. Install single roller bearing (4) on shaft (3) until it is against the should of shaft (3).4. Put 4C-9507 Retaining Compoundto the inside diameter of collar (5) and on shaft (3). Install collar (5) until it makes contact with bearing (4). Remove any excess compound. 5. Install retainer (6) on housing (1) to hold the double roller bearing (2) in position.6. Install shaft (3) and bearing (4) in housing (1) as a unit. Be sure that shaft (3) is in alignment with bearing (2) and bearing (4) is also in alignment with it respective outer race. 7. Install snap ring (7) with Tool (D). 8. Install seal (8) with Tool (F) until it makes contact with snap ring (7). Install rubber washer (9) (thrower) on shaft (3). 9. Put clean water on the ceramic ring (10). Install ceramic ring (10) with Tool (A) and hand pressure. Install the ring with the bevel side down. 10. Install body (13) on housing (1). Install nuts (15) and locks.11. Install the spacer, lock and nut on the gear end of the pump shaft. Tighten the nut to a torque of 95 to 110 N m (70 to 80 lb ft)and bend the tab of the lock in the groove of the nut.12. Put clean water on seal (16). Install seal (16) on the pump shaft with large seal surface against the ceramic ring. Use hand pressure only to install seal (16). Make a replacement of both seal (16) and ceramic ring (10) if either is damaged or worn.13. Install washer (11) on the pump shaft.14. Install plate (17) in body (13) with tabs (12) in alignment with the notches in body (13).15. Install the O-ring seal around ring (14). 16. Install the original shims (20) if available or shims of a thickness of 0.51mm (.020 in)as a place to start.17. Use a micrometer and measure the thickness of the impeller (18) and the width of ring (14) to find the difference in dimensions. This difference is used to find the shims needed to get the same amount of clearance on each side of the impeller when it is installed in the pump.18. Install key (19) and impeller (18) on the pump shaft. Install the impeller with the threaded puller holes toward the outside. 19. Install the washer and nut (22). Tighten the nut to a torque of 60 to 70 N m (45 to 50 lb ft). Install the cotter pin to hold
