The oil supply oil tube does not have to be loosened in order to remove the rocker shaft assembly & push rods.1. Remove three nuts (1) and bolt (2) evenly and gradually. Begin with the end brackets and move towards the center. When installing, aluminum bracket nuts and bolt are tighten evenly and gradually beginning with the inner fasteners and working towards the end fasteners to a torque of 40 N m (30 lb ft). Cast iron brackets are tighten evenly and gradually beginning with the inner fasteners and working towards the end fasteners to a torque of 75 N m (55 lb ft). Lubricate the nuts and bolt with clean engine oil before installing.2. Remove rocker shaft assembly (3).3. Remove the oil seal from the oil supply connection or the oil supply hole in the cylinder head. When installing, replace with a new oil seal. 4. Remove four or six push rods (4). Mark or identify for later installation. When installing, make sure the push rods fit correctly into the sockets of the tappets. When installing, make sure the oil supply connection fits correctly into the new oil seal. When installing, make sure the ends of the adjustment screws fit into the sockets of the push rods. Start By:a. remove rocker shaft assembly 1. Use a screw driver or similar tool to remove retaining ring (1) from each end of the rocker shaft assembly.2. Slide the components off each end of the rocker shaft assembly. Mark or identify each component as to their location and position for later assembly.
Retaining Ring (1). Shaft End Washer (2). Lever Assembly (3). Shaft Bracket (4). Shaft Spring (5). Washer (6). Rocker Shaft (7).3. Rocker shaft assembly completely disassembled. Clean and inspect all rocker shaft assembly components. Check the clearance of the rocker levers on the rocker shaft. If the clearance is more than 0.13 mm (0.0005 inch). Replace the rocker lever bushing and/or the rocker shaft.
Use Tool (A) and a suitable press to remove rocker lever bushing (10) if necessary. Make sure the lubrication hole on the new bushing is in line with the hole in the rocker lever when installing bushing. Ream the bushing to permit a clearance of 0.03 to 0.09 mm (0.001 to 0.004 inch).
4. If necessary, remove bolt (8) and oil supply connection (9) from the rocker shaft. Make sure all the oil holes in the rocker shaft and in the rocker levers are not clogged or plugged before beginning assembly procedure. When assembling, make sure bolt (8) and oil supply connection (9) are correctly positioned on the rocker shaft (7). Lubricate the components with clean engine oil before beginning assembly procedure. For assembly of the rocker shaft assembly, reverse the disassembly steps. Refer to the 3054 & 3056 Diesel Engines Systems Operation & Testing & Adjusting Manual, SENR5542 for procedure to set the valve clearance on the engine.End By:a. install rocker shaft assembly
