Information:
Start By:a. remove crankcase guards (rear only)1. Lower the bucket of the machine to the floor.2. Connect the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in the 988F Power Train Disassembly & Assembly module, Form No. SENR5729.3. Activate the parking brake.4. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system as follows: a. Move the lift control lever to the "Float" position.b. Shut off the engine.c. Move the lift control lever to the "Hold" position.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Be sure all the hydraulic pressure is released before any fittings, hoses or components are loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted.
d. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.e. Carefully loosen the plugs at the rear of the tilt cylinders. When the oil from the loosened plugs stops draining, tighten the two plugs.f. Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank.g. The pressure in the hydraulic system has now been released.5. Drain the oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 235 liters (61.1 U.S. gal).
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
6. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 135 liters (35.1 U.S. gal). 7. Open the engine enclosure doors on each side of the engine.8. Remove six bolts (2) and the washers that hold hood (1) in position. Fasten a hoist to the hood, and remove it from the machine. The weight of the hood is 45 kg (100 lb). 9. Loosen two clamps (3). Slide hose (4) off of the tube assembly that is connected to the radiator top tank. 10. Loosen two clamps (9), and slide hose (10) off of tube assembly (6).11. Loosen two clamps (12), and slide hose (11) off of the tube assembly that is connected to the top of the hydraulic oil cooler.12. Remove four bolts (5), the washers and tube assembly (6) from the radiator top tank.13. Remove four bolts (7), the washers and tube assembly (8).
View From Under Radiator14. Disconnect hose assembly (14). Remove fitting (15) from the bottom of the hydraulic oil cooler core.15. Remove four bolts (13) and the washers that hold the hydraulic oil cooler core in position at the bottom.
During removal of the hydraulic oil cooler core, do not damage the radiator core or the hydraulic oil cooler core.
16. Fasten tool (A) and a hoist to hydraulic oil cooler core (17). Remove four bolts (16) and the washers that hold the hydraulic oil cooler core in position at the top. Slowly remove hydraulic oil cooler core (17) from the machine. The weight of the hydraulic oil cooler core is 36 kg (80 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the hydraulic oil cooler.17. Install the hydraulic oil cooler in the reverse order of removal.18. Fill the cooling system with coolant and the hydraulic system with oil to the correct levels. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedures.19. Start the machine, and check for leaks.End By:a. install crankcase guards (rear only)
