Raise the boom and install the boom cylinder lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Boom Cylinder Lock - Removal and Installation Procedures".
Remove the bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, RENR5162, "Sump Guard - Remove and Install".
Unlock the latch on the hood. Lift the hood. Install the strut in order to hold the hood in the raised position.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch (if equipped)".
Remove the grill. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Engine Enclosure - Remove and Install".

Location of the electric starting motor
Place an identification mark on all electrical wires that are connected to the electric starting motor.

Disconnect electrical wire (1) from the electric starting motor. Remove nuts (2) and the spring washers in order to remove battery cable (3), electrical wire (4), ground strap (5) and electrical wire (6) from the electric starting motor.

Remove bolts (8) and the washers that secure bar (7) to the frame of the machine. Remove bolt (10) and the washer that secures ground strap (9) to the machine. Move the bar and the attached equipment to one side in order to improve access to the underside of the electric starting motor.

Remove nuts (11) and the washers from the studs that secure the electric electric starting motor to the flywheel housing. It will be necessary to use Tool (A) to remove some of the nuts.
Remove the electric starting motor from the machine.Installation Procedure

Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
Position the electric starting motor onto the machine.

Install nuts (11) and the washers onto the studs on the flywheel housing in order to secure the electric starting motor to the machine. It will be necessary to use Tool (A) to install some of the nuts.

Move bar (7) and the attached equipment into position on the frame. Secure the bar in place with bolts (8) and the washers. Secure ground strap (9) to the frame before securing in place with bolt (10) and the washer.

Install battery cable (3), electrical wire (4), ground strap (5) and electrical wire (6) to the electric starting motor before securing in place with nuts (2) and the spring washers. Reconnect electrical wire (1) to the electric starting motor., End By:
Install the grill. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Engine Enclosure - Remove and Install".
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch (if equipped)".
Remove the strut that holds the hood in the raised position. Stow the strut correctly. Lower the hood and lock the hood in place with the latch.
