Diagnostic Codes Table
J1939 Code and Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
3607-2 Engine Emergency Shutdown Indication : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an intermittent signal from one of the emergency stop switch. The code is logged.
The red stop lamp is activated. The state of the inputs for the emergency stop switches and user-defined shutdown allow the ECM to determine if the engine is ready for starting. The emergency stop switch can be used by the operator to prohibit engine starting and the switch can be used to shut down the engine. A remote switch can also be installed by the customer that will prevent the engine from starting or shut down the engine. The emergency stop switches are located on the engine control panel. The ECM is configured to record a diagnostic code that indicated an engine event when the switch is activated. The emergency stop switches are normally closed switches when in the RUN position.Terminal 78 at the customer terminal strip in the display panel is reserved as a user-defined shutdown input. At the factory, the circuit is wired to terminal 15 (digital return) at the display panel terminal strip. The input may be wired by the customer to a normally closed switch that will become grounded to the −Battery during engine operation. In order for engine starting to be initiated, this terminal must become grounded. Once the circuit is opened, a delay timer begins to count down a preprogrammed delay. If the circuit becomes open during engine operation, the engine will be shut down. Refer to Systems Operation, "System Configuration Parameters" for information that is related to the "Driven Equipment Delay Time" parameter.Note: The user-defined shutdown input at the engine ECM must be grounded in order for the engine to be cranked. If a user-defined shutdown is not being used on this engine, ensure that the circuit for this input is grounded to the digital return.

Thoroughly inspect connectors (2), (3), and (5). Also, thoroughly inspect the terminal connections at terminal strip (6 ) and at the emergency shutdown switch (4) that are inside the display panel. Carefully inspect any other connections that are associated with the circuit for the driven equipment. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.

Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the circuit for the emergency stop switch.
Check the torque of the fasteners at the ECM connectors and the engine interface connector. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the ECM to the emergency stop switch. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are coupled and/or inserted, and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring are not OK.Repair: Repair the wiring and/or the connectors. Replace parts, if necessary.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Suspect Circuit for the Emergency Shutdown Switch at the ECM
Ensure that the electrical power has been removed from the engine.
Disconnect the J1/P1 ECM connector.
Place the emergency stop switch in the RUN position.
Use a multimeter to check for continuity between terminals P1-18 and terminal P1-23. Also check for continuity between terminals P1-5 and terminal P1-56. While the emergency stop switch is in the RUN position , each circuit must be continuous.
Place the emergency stop switch in the STOP position.
Use a multimeter to check for continuity between terminals P1-18 and terminal P1-23. Also check for continuity between terminals P1
