Diagnostic Trouble Codes for the Ignition System for the Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD)
CDL Code     Description     Notes
2465-5     Aftertreatment #1 Ignition Transformer Primary : Current Below Normal     The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects the following conditions:
The current flow through the primary ignition circuit is below the threshold while the ECM is trying to spark the plug.
The ECM has been powered for at least 2 seconds.
The Engine System Indicator lamp will come on. The ECM will log the diagnostic code.
If a regeneration is in progress, the ARD completes the regeneration.
2465-6     Aftertreatment #1 Ignition Transformer Primary : Current Above Normal     The ECM detects the following conditions:
There is excessive current flow through the secondary ignition circuit or there is excessive current flow through the primary ignition circuit.
The ECM has been powered for at least 2 seconds.
The Engine System Indicator lamp will come on. The ECM will log the diagnostic code.
3180-5     Aftertreatment #1 Ignition Transformer Secondary : Current Below Normal     The ECM detects the following conditions:
The ARD has attempted to ignite three times. All of the attempts were unsuccessful. There is a fault with the current flow through the secondary circuit. The primary circuit is OK.
The ECM has been powered for at least 2 seconds.
The Engine System Indicator lamp will come on. The ECM will log the diagnostic code.
3180-6     Aftertreatment #1 Ignition Transformer Secondary : Current Above Normal     The ECM detects the following conditions:
The ARD has attempted to ignite three times. All of the attempts were unsuccessful. The ECM has detected a fault with the current flow through the secondary circuit. The primary circuit is OK.
The ECM has been powered for at least 2 seconds.
The Engine System Indicator lamp will come on. The ECM will log the diagnostic code.

ARD combustion head (5) ARD combustion head (6) Spark plug (7) Ignition wire (8) Ground electrode (9) Spark plug electrode (10) Ground wire (11) Ground pointSystem OperationThe ARD ignition system has two circuits. The primary circuit is between the ECM and the ignition coil. The secondary circuit is between the ignition coil and the ARD combustion head. The current flow through the primary circuit indicates the condition of the primary circuit and of the secondary circuit. The ECM monitors the current flow through the primary circuit. In this way, the ECM is able to detect faults in the primary circuit and the secondary circuit. The ECM creates an ignition pulse 40 times each second whenever the engine speed is greater than 500 rpm. Wiring sends the signal to the primary side of the ignition coil. The ignition coil is located on the panel for the electronics on the CEM.The ignition coil converts the ignition pulse into a high voltage signal. Ignition wire (7) connects the ignition coil output to spark plug (6). The spark plug is threaded into the ARD combustion head. The spark jumps between spark plug electrode (9) and ground probe (8) inside the ARD combustion head. The spark ignites the air/fuel mixture. The ground wire ensures that the secondary ignition circuit is complete between the ARD combustion head and the ignition coil. The ground wire runs inside the insulation that is wrapped around ignition wire (7). The ground wire is connected to two ground points. One ground point (11) is on the ARD combustion head. One ground point is on the panel for the electronics near the ignition transformer.Disabling the ARD Ignition SystemThere are two ways to disable the ARD ignition system."Disable" switch - An E993-2 code is active when the "Disable" switch is disabling the ARD."ARD Manual Disable Status" Parameter on the electronic service tool - An E992-3 code is active when the "ARD Manual Disable Status" parameter is disabling the ARD.Features on the electronic service tool for the ARD Ignition System"ARD Ignition Test" - The test operates the ARD for approximately 5 minutes while the engine is running. The test determines if the ARD can generate heat. If the ARD cannot generate heat, a diagnostic code is activated. The code indicates the specific fault with the ARD."ARD Ignition Transformer Primary Status Override" - This override turns on the ARD ignition system while the engine is not running. Avoid contacting the ignition system components and the ignition system wiring while this override is on.Access the following screens in order to access the override:
Diagnostics
Diagnostic Tests
System Troubleshooting Settings
Select "ARD Ignition Transformer Primary Status".
Change the "ARD Ignition Transformer Primary Status" to "On".Test Step 1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
