Information:

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure in the cooling system. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 31.5 liters (8.2 U.S. gal).2. Loosen the two bolts on the water pump drive. Remove the V-belt from the pulley on the water pump and the pulley on the water pump drive. 3. Disconnect wiring harness (1) for the water temperature sending unit.4. Close two shutoff valves (3) for the heater. Disconnect the heater hose assembly from each shutoff valve (3).5. Loosen two hose clamps (2).6. Loosen the hose clamp, and disconnect hose assembly (5) from the water pump.7. Remove four bolts (4) that hold the water pump to the front of the engine. Carefully remove water pump (6) and the two O-ring seals from the front of the engine. The following steps are for the installation of the water pump.8. Check the condition of the two O-ring seals used between the water pump and the cylinder block. If the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.9. Install the two O-ring seals in the cover of the water pump. Put water pump (6) in position on the front of the engine. Install four bolts (4) that hold it.10. Tighten two clamp (2) that holds the short hose used between the water pump and the water temperature regulator housing.11. Connect hose assembly (5) to the water pump.12. Connect the hose assembly to each shutoff valve (3) for the heater.13. Connect wiring harness (1) for the water temperature sending unit.14. Install the V-belt on the pulleys of the water pump and the water pump drive. Adjust the tension of the V-belt. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct adjusting procedure.15. After installation of the alternator, fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.16. Open two shutoff valves (3) for the heater.End By:a. install alternatorDisassemble & Assemble Water Pump
Start By:a. remove water pump 1. Remove two O-ring seals (1) from the rear cover of the water pump. Remove four bolts (2) and the washers. Remove the rear cover and gasket. 2. Put the water pump in a press. Use spacer plates to level the water pump.3. Using a suitable size drive plate from Tool (A) and a press, push the shaft and pulley (3), as a unit, out of impeller (4). Remove the impeller.
Do not allow the shaft and pulley to fall to the floor as it is being removed from seal (5) and the water pump housing. Damage to the shaft and pulley will result.
4. Continue to push the shaft and pulley out of seal (5) and the water pump housing. 5. Using the handle from Tool (B) and a press, remove seal (5) from the water pump housing. 6. Using a press, remove the shaft and bearing assembly from pulley (3). The following steps are for the assembly of the water pump. 7. Using a press, install the shaft and bearing assembly into pulley (3). Install the shaft until it is flush with the end of the pulley. 8. Press the shaft, bearing assembly and pulley, as a unit, into the water pump housing. Install the unit until the distance between the front face of pulley (3) and the machined surface of the water pump housing is 103.8 0.3 mm (4.09 .01 in). See Illustration C20417P1.9. Using Tool (C) and a press, install seal (5) in the water pump housing.10. Using a press, install impeller (4) on the shaft of the water pump. Install the impeller until the distance between the impeller and the machined surface of the water pump housing is 0.75 0.25 mm (.030 .010 in). See the Illustration C20417P1.11. Check the condition of the gasket used between the rear cover of the water pump and the water pump housing. If the gasket is damaged, use a new part for replacement. Put the gasket and cover in position on the water pump housing. Install four bolts (2) and the washers that hold the rear cover in position.12. Check the condition of two O-ring seals (1). If the seals are damaged, use a new part for replacement. Install the two O-ring seals in the rear cover.End By:a. install water pump
