Engine Speed Droop
Illustration 1 g02142376
Droop and HSG slopes are equal.
Illustration 2 g02142377
Isochronous droopEngine speed droop is the variation of the engine speed as load is applied. When the load reaches the torque limit curve of the engine, the engine will lug backward along the curve. Note: Values of droop can be assigned to the PWM accelerator or the level input. Also, the value of droop can be assigned to the TSC1 speed demand over J1939. Droop does not apply to the PTO mode. The PTO mode always operates at a zero percent droop.High Speed Governor (Governor Runout)
Under light load conditions, the maximum engine speed is determined by the lower speed of the following:
High idle speed
"Top Engine Limit" x (1 + "Droop percent"/100)Under higher parasitic loads, the maximum actual engine speed may be less than the above listed values. The range of possible idle speed is defined by the High Idle Lower Limit (HILL) and the High Idle Upper Limit (HIUL). High idle cannot be given a value that is less than the Rated Speed (RS). The HIUL is dependent on the mechanical limits of the engine.Installing the Software
Flash 356-4766 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp for C15 Engines or 426-2718 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp for C11 Engines into the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Configure one of the features of speed control (the PWM throttle or the TSC1 speed control over J1939) to enable the functionality of the droop operation. Refer to Electronics Application and Installation Guide, LEBH4623-02 for information on configuring the speed control. Refer to Table 2 for the recommended parameters for the customers that must share loads.

Recommended Configuration
The following values must be configured in the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) before using a PWM TPS.
The "Throttle Position Sensor" is programmed to "Installed" (1) .
The "Throttle Input Low Idle Duty Cycle Setpoint" has a default of 10. The recommended "Throttle Input Low Idle Duty Cycle Setpoint" value is 10. A range of 10 to 40 is available.
The "Throttle Input High Idle Duty Cycle Setpoint" (2) has a default of 90. The recommended "Throttle Input High Idle Duty Cycle Setpoint" value is 80. A range of 50 to 90 is available.
If the 356-4766 - 99 for C15 or the 385-6102 - 97 or 385-6102 - 99 for C13 software is currently installed on the engine, use the following steps in order to clear the memory of any default settings.
Flash the ECM with the 356-4766 - 00 or 426-2718 - 00 PSO software.
Program the default values for the "Droop Percent" and the "Petro Droop Install".
The ignition switch must be cycled in order to set the change.
