Information:
without a shutdown command from the Status Control Module (SCM).Test Step 1. Check the Operation of the Governor, the Throttle and the Gas Valve
Turn the Engine Control Switch (ECS) to the MANUAL/START position.
Crank the engine.Note: If the engine will not crank, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Does Not Crank".
Check the operation of the governor, the throttle and the gas valve.Expected Result:The governor, the throttle and the gas valve are operating correctly. Results:
OK - The governor, the throttle and the gas valve are operating correctly. There may be a problem with the ignition or with the engine fuel system. Refer to the engine troubleshooting guide, if necessary. If this application utilizes a 2301A speed control, proceed to Test Step 4.
Not OK - The gas valve for the Energize to Run (ETR) fuel system is not operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The gas valve for the Energize to Shutdown (ETS) fuel system is not operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 2. Check the ETR
Turn the main disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Connect a jumper wire between terminal S and terminal 23 of the SCM.
Turn the main disconnect switch to the ON position.
Attempt to start the engine.Expected Result:The engine starts and the engine runs. Results:
OK - The engine starts and the engine runs.Repair: The Fuel Control Relay (FCR) was not energizing the Gas Shut Off Valve (GSOV). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relay Module - Test".STOP
Not OK - The engine does not start.Repair: Troubleshoot the GSOV. Refer to the engine Troubleshooting, "Engine Cranks but Will Not Start".Check the voltage at terminal S. If there is no voltage at terminal S, measure the voltage at the battery posts. Check the wiring and/or connectors between the SCM and the battery.Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Replace the battery, if necessary.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 3. Check the ETS
Turn the main disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the fuse F6 that is between terminal R and terminal S of the SCM.
Turn the main disconnect switch to the ON position.
Attempt to start the engine.Expected Result:The engine starts and the engine runs. Results:
OK - The engine starts and the engine runs.Repair: The FCR is energizing the GSOV. Check the FCR. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relay Module - Test".STOP
Not OK - The engine does not start.Repair: Troubleshoot the GSOV. Refer to the engine Troubleshooting, "Engine Cranks but Will Not Start".Check the resistance between terminal S and terminal 23 of the SCM. If the resistance is below 5 Ohms, proceed to Testing and Adjusting, "Relay Module - Test".If the resistance is not below 5 Ohms, check the circuit for a short to the +Battery. If necessary, repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 4. Check the 2301A Speed Control
Measure the voltage on terminal 2 of the speed control.
Turn the main disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Check the resistance between terminal 1 of the speed control and terminal 155 on the terminal strip of the remote control panel.Expected Result:The voltage is greater than 15 VDC. The resistance does not show an open circuit. Results:
OK - The voltage is greater than 15 VDC. The resistance does not show an open circuit.Repair: There may be a problem with the governor or with the Electronic Governor Actuator (EGV).Troubleshoot the Electronic Governor Control (EGC). Refer to the 2301A Electronic Governor Service Manual, SENR2928.STOP
Not OK - The voltage is less than 15 VDC. The resistance does not show an open circuit. There is a problem in the wiring to the 2301A speed control. Proceed to Test Step 5.
Not OK - The voltage is greater than 15 VDC. The resistance shows an open circuit.Repair: There is a problem with the return wire.Check the continuity of the return wire between terminal 1 of the 2301A speed control and terminal 155 on the terminal strip of the remote control panel. If necessary, repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 5. Check the voltage to the 2301A Speed Control
Turn the main disconnect switch to the ON position.
Locate the terminal strip on the back of the remote control panel.
Crank the engine.
Measure the voltage at terminal 106.
Measure the voltage on both sides of fuse F2 of the remote control panel.
Measure the voltage at terminal 2 of the 2301A speed control.Expected Result:The voltage is above 15 VDC at all of the test points. Results:
OK - The voltage is above 15 VDC at all of the test points. Proceed to Test Step 6.
Not OK - The voltage is below 15 VDC at all of the test points.Repair: Measure the voltage at the battery posts. Check the wiring and/or connectors between the remote control panel and the battery.Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Replace the battery, if necessary.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOP
Not OK - The voltage is above 15 VDC on terminal 106 of the remote control panel and the +Battery side of the fuse F2. The voltage is low at all other test points.Repair: The fuse F2 is open.Replace the fuse F2.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOP
