Never bend the eyebolts and the brackets. Only load the eyebolts and the brackets under tension. Remember that the capacity of an eyebolt is less as the angle between the supporting members and the object becomes less than 90 degrees. When it is necessary to remove a component at an angle, only use a link bracket that is properly rated for the weight.
Use a hoist to remove heavy components. Use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the engine. All supporting members (chains and cables) should be parallel to each other. The chains and cables should be perpendicular to the top of the object that is being lifted. Some removals require lifting the fixtures in order to obtain proper balance and safety. To remove the engine ONLY, use the lifting eyes that are on the engine.Lifting eyes are designed and installed for the specific engine arrangement. Alterations to the lifting eyes and/or the engine make the lifting eyes and the lifting fixtures obsolete. If alterations are made, ensure that proper lifting devices are provided. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for information regarding fixtures for proper engine lifting.Lifting the Engine

Lifting ring (A) Maximum Allowable Thread Depth on the Lifting Ring is 27 mm (1.063 inch). (B) 48 mm (1.89 inch) or it will not work with the lift angles. (C) M16 x 2.0Eyebolts are not recommended for lifting this transmission. Lifting rings are recommended for lifting angles of 60° and greater from horizontal. Lift angles that are less than 60° from horizontal are not acceptable.Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Description" for the weights and dimensions of the Well Servicing Transmission.Install appropriate lifting eyes in threaded holes (1). Use an appropriate strap in lifting eye (1) and in the lifting eyes in threaded holes (2). Ensure that the lifting eyes are tightened to the correct torque before you lift the transmission.Use a hoist to remove heavy components. Use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the transmission. All supporting members (chains and cables) should be parallel to each other. The chains and cables should be perpendicular to the top of the object that is being lifted. Alterations to lifting eyes or fixtures will make lifting eyes and fixtures obsolete. Eyebolts are not recommended for lifting this transmission. Suitable lifting rings are recommended.Acceptable lifting points. The guard for the ECPC valve should be mounted on the transmission if the transmission is being placed on the base supports.Care must be taken when the transmission is lifted in order to avoid damaging the following components that are mounted externally on the transmission: ECU, ECPC valves, solenoids, wire harness and sensors. Some removals require lifting fixtures in order to obtain proper balance and safety. For lifting objects, use properly rated cables and properly rated slings. Position the crane for a level lift of the transmission. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for information regarding fixtures for proper lifting of your transmission.Spreader bar widths should be sufficient for preventing contact with the transmission.Lifting the Petroleum Package

Lifting points for the petroleum packageDo not use the engine lifting eyes or the lifting eyes for the transmission to lift the entire package. Lifting the entire package may require special equipment and procedures. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for information regarding proper fixtures and procedures to lift the entire package.
