Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines and on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all lines and all hoses. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Connect the steering frame lock link. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Link, Separate and Connect".
Lower the bucket of the machine to the floor and engage the parking brake.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Remove the crankcase guards. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Crankcase Guards".
Drain the oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Remove the filler cap from the radiator. The approximate capacity of the hydraulic tank is 235 L (62 US gal).
Slowly loosen the filler cap in order to release the pressure in the cooling system. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container. The approximate capacity of the cooling system is 135 L (36 US gal).

Loosen two clamps (3). Slide hose (4) off the tube assembly that is connected to the radiator top tank.
Illustration 3 g00750247
Remove four bolts (5) and washers. Remove tube assembly (6) .
Loosen two clamps (10) and slide hose (9) off tube assembly (8). Remove four bolts (7) and remove tube assembly (8) .
Loosen two clamps (11) and slide hose (12) from the tube assembly that is connected to the top of the hydraulic oil cooler.
Illustration 4 g00750280
Disconnect hose assembly (15) from the hydraulic oil cooler. Remove fitting (14) from the hydraulic oil cooler.
Remove four bolts (13) and the washers that are holding the hydraulic oil cooler in position on the bottom of the cooler.
Illustration 5 g00750293
Note: During removal of the hydraulic oil cooler, do not damage the radiator core or the hydraulic oil cooler core.
Fasten tool (A) and the proper lifting device to the hydraulic oil cooler. Remove four bolts (16) and the washers that are holding hydraulic oil cooler (17) in position at the top. Carefully lift the hydraulic oil cooler core (17) from the machine. The approximate weight of the hydraulic oil cooler is 36 kg (80 lb).
