Information:
start by:a) remove crankcase guard (tractor engine)b) remove exhaust manifold (tractor engine only) The fuel systems for the tractor engine and scraper engine are removed the same way. Make sure the fuel supply for the scraper engine is in the "OFF" position. 1. Tooling (A) can be used to turn the engine to put the No. 1 piston on top center compression. If tooling (A) is used, remove the electric starting motor and install tooling (A) as shown. If tooling (A) is not used, the engine can be turned with the bolt that holds the pulley for the vibration damper.2. Put the No. 1 piston at top center compression as follows: a) Turn the crankshaft clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) until a 3/8"-16 NC bolt (1) 3 1/2" in. long can be installed through the timing hole in the flywheel housing and into the hole in the flywheel. Never turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to install the bolt in the flywheel.b) Disconnect the breather from the valve cover. The rocker arms can be seen through the breather hole for No. 1 piston.c) Check to see if both rocker arms can be moved backward and forward by hand through the breather hole. The No. 1 piston is at the top center compression position when the bolt is installed in the flywheel and the rocker arms for the No. 1 piston can be moved backward and forward.d) If both rocker arms can not be moved, the No. 1 piston is not at the top center compression. Remove the bolt from the flywheel. Turn the engine clockwise as seen from the front of the engine one full turn 360° and install the bolt again. 3. Disconnect cable (2) from the air fuel ratio control. Disconnect the air line from the fuel ratio control.4. Disconnect rod (3) for the governor control.5. Disconnect three fuel lines (4) from the fuel injection pump. Put identification on the lines as to their location on the pump. 6. Remove elbow (5) from the air cleaner assembly.
VIEW FROM UNDER MACHINE7. Disconnect tachometer drive (6) from the fuel system.8. Remove five bolts (7) and bracket (8) from the fuel system. Disconnect the drain tubes for the fuel system from the cylinder block. 9. Remove cover (9) from the timing gear cover. 10. Loosen bolt (10) until the washer is approximately 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) away from the drive gear. Do not remove the bolt at this time. 11. Install tooling (B) on the drive gear as shown. Tighten the center bolt in tooling (B) until the drive gear is loose. Remove tooling (B), bolt (10) and the washer. The drive gear will stay in the timing gear cover. 12. Install timing pin (12) in the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft.13. Fasten a hoist to the fuel system as shown. Remove three nuts (11) and washers that hold the fuel system to the studs in the timing gear plate. Remove the fuel system. Weight of the fuel system is 50 lb. (23 kg).Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor
1. Make sure timing pin (1) is in the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft.2. Fasten a hoist to the fuel system and put it in position on the studs in the timing gear plate. Make sure the drive gear is over the end of the fuel injection pump camshaft. Install the three washers and nuts that hold the fuel system in position.3. Install the washer and bolt that hold the drive gear in position. Tighten the bolt finger tight only. Make sure the timing bolt and timing pin are in position. Install a 3/8"-24 NF bolt 1/2" long and a flat washer in one of the threaded bolt holes in the drive gear. Install a torque wrench on the 3/8" bolt so the centerline of the torque wrench is in alignment with the two threaded holes and the bolt that holds the gear in position. Put a force of 50 lb.ft. (67.8 N m) on the drive gear in a clockwise direction (as seen from the front of the engine). This will take the clearance (backlash) out of the gears. With a force of 50 lb.ft. (67.8 N m) on the drive gear, tighten the bolt to a torque of 110 5 lb.ft. (149.1 6.8 N m).4. Install the cover over the drive gear. Tighten the nuts that hold the cover in position to a torque of 17 3 lb.ft. (23.0 4.1 N m).5. Connect the drain tube for the fuel system to the cylinder block.
VIEW FROM UNDER MACHINE6. Put bracket (4) in position under the fuel system as shown. Install five bolts (3) that hold it.7. Connect tachometer drive (2) to the fuel system. 8. Install elbow (5) on the air cleaner housing. 9. Connect air line (6) to the fuel ratio control.10. Connect cable (7) to the lever on the fuel ratio control.11. Connect rod (8) to the lever for the governor control.12. Connect three fuel lines (9) to the fuel injection pump housing.13. If an engine turning tool was used, remove it from the flywheel housing and install the electric starting motor.end by:a) install exhaust manifold (tractor engine)b) install crankcase guard (tractor engine)
