Diagnostic Codes Table
Code and Description     Conditions which Generate this Code     System Response
268-2 Programmed Parameter Fault erratic, intermittent, or incorrect     The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects incorrect engine software.     Any unprogrammed parameters are set to the default value.    System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and engine applications. Default values for the parameters are programmed at the factory. Some parameters may be changed by the customer in order to suit the needs of the specific application. You must reprogram the system configuration parameters if the ECM is replaced and/or if you reprogram the engine rating. Values for these parameters are available on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate.Parameter Descriptions
"Engine Power Rating Selection Number"
This parameter defines the engine power ratings that can be used."Equipment ID"
This parameter allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM in order to identify the installation. A maximum of 17 characters can be entered in the field."Engine Serial Number"
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate. The engine serial number is not preprogrammed on a replacement ECM."FLS" (Full Load Setting)
"FLS" is a number that represents the adjustment to the fuel system that was made at the factory in order to fine tune the fuel system. The correct value for this parameter is stamped on the engine information plate. Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM is installed. The parameter allows one time of programming without a factory password. In order to change the "FLS" after the initial programming, factory passwords are required."FTS" (Full Torque Setting)
"FTS" is similar to "FLS". Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM is installed. Factory passwords are required. A new ECM or a blank ECM allows one time of programming of the "FTS" without the use of factory passwords. In order to change the "FTS" after the initial programming, factory passwords are required."PTO Ramp Rate"
This parameter determines the rate of changes in rpm."Torque Limit"
This parameter determines the value of the torque output when the torque limit switch is activated."Ether Solenoid Configuration" (3406E)
This parameter allows this feature to be programmed to "pulse" or "continuous flow"."Top Engine Limit (TEL)"
This parameter allows a maximum engine speed to be programmed for use when the engine is under load."Low Idle"
This parameter allows a minimum engine speed to be programmed for engine idle."High Idle"
This parameter allows a maximum engine speed to be programmed for engine idle."Intermediate Engine Speed (PTO)"
This parameter allows the engine speed to be ramped to a programmed speed."Programmable Torque Limit " (3176C / 3196)
When the torque limit switch is active, this parameter allows the torque limit to be set."Engine Monitoring Mode"
This parameter determines the action of the ECM when an event is detected."%Power Trim" (3406E / 3456 )
This parameter allows a power adjustment within a selected power rating."Auxiliary Pressure"
This parameter allows the auxiliary pressure to be programmed to a maximum value. If the trip point for auxiliary pressure is programmed to zero the diagnostics will be disabled."Auxiliary Temperature"
This parameter allows the auxiliary temperature to be programmed to a maximum value. If the trip point for auxiliary temperature is programmed to zero the diagnostics will be disabled."Maintenance Indicator Mode"
The ECM records data that is related to equipment maintenance. The ECM will activate the maintenance indicator lamp when scheduled maintenance is due. The maintenance indicator lamp can be reset by actuating the maintenance clear switch. The maintenance interval may be based on operating hours or fuel consumption. The ECM provides information that pertains to maintenance intervals and the last maintenance that was performed."PM1 Interval"
This parameter allows the customer to define the maintenance interval if "Maintenance Indicator Mode" is programmed to manual hours. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for more information."Throttle Position Sensor Configuration"
This parameter allows the diagnostics for the throttle to be disabled."Coolant Level Sensor Enable/Disable"
This parameter determines if the ECM monitors the inputs for the coolant level sensor."Personality Module Code (if applicable)"
This parameter prevents the ECM from using an incorrect personality module."PTO Mode"
"PTO Mode" allows the ECM to be programmed to either one of the two PTO configurations that are available."Ramp Up/Ramp Down" - When "PTO Mode" is programmed to "Ramp Up/Ramp Down", the ECM allows PTO operation with traditional features."Set/Resume" - When "PTO Mode" is programmed to "Set/Resume", the ECM allows PTO operation with enhanced features."Power Trim"
This parameter allows power adjustments within a selected engine rating."Intermediate Engine Speed Switch"
This parameter allows the intermediate engine speed to be defined."Total Tattletale"
The total tattletale counts the number of changes to system parameters.Parameter Table
