Revision Summary of Changes
01 Updated engine effectivity in Table 5. Description Of Change: An additional oil level sensor group is being added to the oil pan to notify the operator of low engine oil levels. With the addition of the extra engine oil level sensors there are three sensors now installed in the oil pan. The three sensor locations, functionality, and messages are listed below:
Top Oil Level Sensor (Level 1 "Fast Fill") - sensor trips the light on the service box on the bumper when refilling.
Middle Oil Level Sensor (Level 2 "Add Eng Oil") - this position is the additional oil level sensor which alerts the operator that the oil is in need of top-up.
Bottom Oil Level Sensor (Level 3 "Emergency Low Oil") - sensor trips alarm and shutdown the engine.Note: For engines built (or modified) with this oil level sensor group, the bottom sensor has been raised to 50.0 mm (1.97 inch) from the bottom of the oil pan.Note: To ensure sensor functionality, install the latest engine software file available in Cat® Service Information System (SIS) web.The additional liquid level sensor must be set to "Installed" through Cat® Electronic Technician (ET). Once the installation is complete, the additional engine oil level sensor will be enabled under the following conditions:
Engine speed less than 720 rpm
Vehicle speed equals to 0 km/h (0 mph)
Oil temperature greater than 75° C (167° F)
Sensors debounce equals to 300 secondsIf the sensor detects low engine oil level after enabling the sensor, "Add Eng Oil" will be displayed in the advisor:After adding engine oil, the message on the advisor will be cleared when the following conditions are met:
Engine speed less than 720 rpm
Vehicle speed equals to 0 km/h (0 mph)
Sensors debounce equals to 30 secondsThe engine oil level is around 19 L (5 US gal) low with the following conditions:
Machine on level ground
Oil temperature greater than 75° C (167° F)
Engine running at 700 rpm
Advisor displays "Add Eng Oil"Note: Utilize the sight gauge on the oil pan to ensure proper oil level when filling.Adaptable To:
