Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.

Typical example
If necessary, remove the assembly of dipstick tube. Loosen nut (1) and remove tube assembly (2). remove seal (3) from the tube assembly.Note: Identify the position and orientation of the tube assembly.

Drain the engine lubricating oil from the engine oil pan into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.
Disconnect the breather hose from the closed circuit breather valve on the engine oil pan. Position the breather hose away from the engine oil pan.
Support engine oil pan (5). Loosen bolts (6) and bolts (7). There are 30 bolts in totalNote: Bolts (6) and (7) are held captive by gasket (4).
Remove engine oil pan (5) from the engine.Installation Procedure

Ensure that engine oil pan (5) is clean and free from damage. Clean bolts (6) and (7). Inspect the bolts for deterioration or damage. If necessary, replace the bolts . Ensure that the gasket surface of the engine oil pan plate is clean.Note: The bolts must be replaced as a complete set to ensure even clamping of the engine oil pan.
Position a new gasket (4) onto the engine oil pan (5).

Install bolts (5) and (6) to the engine oil pan. Do not install the bolts to the large holes at Positions (X) in the engine oil pan.Note: Bolts (5) and (6) are held captive by the gasket.
Install engine oil pan (5) and the gasket to the engine oil pan plate. Tighten the engine oil pan bolts to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 4. There are 26 bolts in total.

Install the four remaining engine oil pan bolts and tighten to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 5.

Typical example
If necessary, follow Step 6.a through Step 6.c to install the assembly of the dipstick tube.
Install a new seal (3) to tube assembly (2).
Apply Tooling (A) to nut (1). Install the tube assembly to the engine oil pan.
Tighten the nut (1) to a torque of 18 N m (159 lb in). Install the dipstick (not shown).Note: Ensure that the orientation of the tube assembly is correct.
Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Oil Filter Change" for the procedure.
