Remove the engine and torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal components.

Cut three tie straps (2) from wire harness (1) and (3). Disconnect wire harness (1) at the electrical connection. Disconnect wire harness (3) at torque converter output speed sensor (4).

Remove bolt (6), the washer, and the clips that hold wire harness (1) and (3) to elbow (7). Remove bolt (4), the washer, and the clip that holds wire harnesses (1) and (3) to torque converter (5). Place wire harnesses (1) and (3) aside.

Install Tooling (A) to torque converter (5), as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to torque converter (5), as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist. The weight of torque converter (5) is 900 kg (1985 lb).
Remove the remaining 15 bolts (9) and the washers that hold torque converter (5) to flywheel housing (8).

Use Tooling (B) at evenly spaced intervals as forcing bolts in order to separate torque converter (5) from flywheel housing (8). Separate torque converter (5) from flywheel housing (8).

Position torque converter (5) on a suitable stand (not shown). Remove O-ring seal (10) from torque converter (5). Remove seal (11) from clutch housing assembly (12). Connection Procedure
Verify that all of the components are clean and free of foreign material prior to connection. Inspect all of the O-ring seals and all of the components for wear and replace all of the O-ring seals and all of the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install O-ring seal (10) to torque converter (5). Install seal (11) to clutch housing assembly (12).

Install Tooling (A) to torque converter (5), as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to torque converter (5). Secure the lifting device to a hoist. The weight of torque converter (5) is 900 kg (1985 lb).
Position torque converter (5) to flywheel housing (8), as shown. Install 15 bolts (9) and the washers that hold torque converter (5) to flywheel housing (8).

Position wire harnesses (1) and (3), as shown. Install bolt (4), the washer, and the clip that holds wire harnesses (1) and (3) to torque converter (5). Install bolt (6), the washer, and the clips that hold wire harnesses (1) and (3) to elbow (7).

Connect wire harness (1) at the electrical connection. Connect wire harness (3) to torque converter outlet speed sensor (4). Install three new tie straps (2) to wire harnesses (1) and (3), as shown. End By:
