Problem
The cup portion of some 4W6682 Pushrods are undersize. This results in overheating of the pushrod and the adjusting screw and possibly breakage of either of these components.

Action Required
PARTS STOCK Remove all 4W6682 Pushrods with package date of 2-86, 3-86 and 4-86 from parts stock.
Affected Product
Remove the valve covers and check the cup area of the pushrods for discoloration. If there is any discoloration, replace the pushrod and the adjusting screw in the arm assembly. The discoloration may range from a light amber to blueish. Also, normal wear will show as a polished area in bottom of the cup. If the cup area is too small, there will be a polished line only around the upper rim of the cup. Adjust the valve lash and injector timing on all cylinders that have the pushrods replaced.

FOR U.S. AND CANADIAN OWNERS XYZ Corporation 3240 Arrow Drive Anywhere, YZ 99999 PRIORITY - Inspection of Pushrods MODELS INVOLVED - 3500 Series Engines Dear Caterpillar Product Owner: The cup portion of some pushrods (valve and fuel injection mechanism) may be too small. This can result in overheating of the pushrod and of the adjustment screw in the rocker arm and possibly breakage of either of these components. The pushrods in the engines listed below need to be inspected. If the cup portion is too small, the pushrods and adjusting screw will be replaced. The repair will be done at no cost to you. Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately and schedule a time to have this service performed. The inspection will take from one to two hours. Replacement of pushrods, if necessary, will take from one to eight hours depending on the number of pushrods that need to be replaced. We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.
