Information:

System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and other features that define the characteristics of the engine subsystems. The parameters are preprogrammed at the factory. You may need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if the ECM is replaced and/or if you reprogram the engine rating. You do not need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if you replace the flash file. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) can be used to view the values for these parameters. Certain system configuration parameters are stamped on the engine information plate.Parameter Descriptions
ECM Identification Parameters
Equipment ID
"Equipment ID" allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM to identify the installation. A maximum of 17 characters may be entered in the field. This parameter is only for reference by the customer. This parameter is not required.Engine Serial Number
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate.Note: When you are requesting factory passwords, always use the engine serial number that is resident in the ECM.ECM Serial Number
The "ECM Serial Number" is stored in the memory of the ECM. The "ECM Serial Number" can be accessed by the use of Cat ET.Software Group Part Number
This parameter identifies the part number of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Release Date
This parameter identifies the release date of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Description
This parameter identifies the description of the application for the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Selected Engine Rating
Rated Power
This parameter specifies the rated power of the engine.Rated Peak Torque
This parameter specifies the rated peak torque of the engine.Test Spec
Test Spec identifies the specific set of test specifications that are used to benchmark the performance of new engines in the test cell. Use this number to retrieve data that is related to the engine specifications from the Technical Marketing Information System (TMI).The following information can be retrieved from TMI:
"As shipped consists"
"Engine test specifications"
"Systems data"
"Physical data"
"Gasket kit data"
"Reman parts"
"Performance data"A link to TMI can be found on the web site for the Service Information System (SIS).Speed Control
Low Idle Speed
This parameter specifies the low idle speed setting for the engine.High Idle Speed
This parameter specifies the maximum high idle speed that is allowed for the engine.Engine Configuration Parameters
Engine Pre-Lube
Set this parameter to "Installed" to configure the ECM for the installation of the prelube system.Ether Solenoid Configuration
This parameter must be programmed to "Continuous Flow" for a continuous flow solenoid and valve assembly.Engine Idle Shutdown
This feature is used to shut down the engine during periods of extended engine idle. This feature will save the engine from the accumulation of service hours and the feature will conserve fuel.Engine Idle Shutdown Minimum Ambient Air Temperature
The idle shutdown feature will not be enabled by the ECM unless the ambient air temperature is above this setting.Engine Idle Shutdown Maximum Ambient Air Temperature
The idle shutdown feature will not be enabled by the ECM unless the ambient air temperature is below this setting.Engine Idle Shutdown Enable Status
This parameter is used to enable the idle shutdown feature.Engine Idle Shutdown Delay Time
This parameter defines the idle time for the machine prior to automatic engine shutdown.Engine Idle Shutdown Ambient Temperature Override Enable Status
This parameter is used to enable the shutdown parameters that are used for the minimum and maximum ambient air temperature.Delayed Engine Shutdown
Illustration 1 g02138396
Position of the keyswitch for an immediate engine shutdown
The operator can defeat the delay for the engine shutdown by turning the keyswitch past the OFF position. The momentary contacts in the switch are closed and an immediate shutdown is initiated.Delayed Engine Shutdown Enable Status
This feature allows the engine to continue to run after the operator has turned the keyswitch to the OFF position. The feature allows the components that are in the engine compartment to cool down to an acceptable level prior to engine shutdown.Delayed Engine Shutdown Maximum Time
This parameter defines the maximum amount of time that the engine will run after the operator has turned the keyswitch to the OFF position.Engine Cooldown Maximum Time
This parameter defines the maximum time that ECM allows the engine to remain in the cooldown mode prior to engine shutdown.Fan Control
Engine Fan Type Configuration
