Table 1
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
CDL Code Description
(code descriptions may vary) System Response
E1190 (3) Aftertreatment Fan Speed - Low The code is logged if the fan speed is not within 300 rpm of the commanded speed. Also, the code will be logged if communication for the CAN data link is lost between the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the fan.
3548-5 Aftertreatment Cooling Fan Control Module : Current Below Normal The ECM has detected an open circuit on the aftertreatment cooling fan circuit.
3548-6 Aftertreatment Cooling Fan Control Module : Current Above Normal The ECM has detected a short circuit on the aftertreatment cooling fan circuit.
3548-8 Aftertreatment Cooling Fan Control Module : Abnormal Frequency, Pulse Width, or Period The code is logged if the fan speed is not within 300 rpm of the commanded speed.
3548-11 Aftertreatment Cooling Fan Control Module : Other Failure Mode The aftertreatment cooling fan is receiving low supply voltage or has failed internally.
E1352 (3) DFW Aftercooler Out Temperature sensor open/short to +batt The internal temperature of the aftertreatment cooling fan exceeded the maximum allowable temperature/threshold. The fan is NOT failed. Note: The E1352 (3) code indicates that the aftertreatment cooling fan internal temperature has exceeded the maximum threshold. The fan will shut down, and the machine should be shut down as soon as possible to avoid damage. The aftertreatment cooling fan is not failed.Note: The following schematic is used for Motor Grader Applications

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Fault Codes
A. Turn the key switch to the ON position.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Record the Fault Codes.
Codes
Result: An E1190 (3) or a 3548-8 is present.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: A 3548-5 or a 3548-6 present.
Proceed to Test Step 6.
Result: A 3548-11 is present.
Proceed to Test Step 9.
Result: An E1352 (3) is present.
Proceed to Test Step 11.
2. Inspect the Fan
A. Inspect the fan for the following conditions:
- Damaged fan blades
- Debris against the fan blades
- Air flow is obstructed
Fan
Result: The Fan is OK.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The fan is obstructed.
Repair: Remove the obstruction. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: The fan is damaged.
Repair: Replace the fan. Verify that the problem is resolved.
3. Check for Voltage at the Fan
A. Disconnect the two-pin connector to the fan.
B. Measure the voltage between pins 1 and 2 on the connector.
Battery Voltage
Result: The voltage is OK.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The voltage is not OK.
Repair: The problem is in the wiring between the fan and the battery. Check the fuse between the fan and the battery. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
Return to service.
4. Check for Continuity Between the Fan and the ECM
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the four-pin connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect both the J1 and J2 harness connectors from the Engine ECM.
D. Check for continuity between th e following pins:
- Pin 1 on the 4-Pin aftertreatment cooling fan connector and pin 20 on the J1 ECM connector.
- Pin 3 on the 4-Pin aftertreatment cooling fan 12 on the J2 ECM connector.
- Pin 4 on the 4-Pin aftertreatment cooling fan connector and pin 11 on the J2 ECM connector.
Continuity
Result: There are less than 10 ohms of resistance on each wire.
Proceed to Test step 5.
Return to service.
Result: There are more than 10 ohms of resistance on each wire.
Repair: Repair the wiring or replace the wiring. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Return to service.
5. Perform an "ARD Ignition Test"
A. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Use Cat ET to perform the "ARD Ignition Test".
D. Visually inspect the aftertreatment cooling fan after the first 30 seconds to see if it is operational.
Aftertreatment Cooling Fan
Result: The fan was not operational.
Repair: Replace the aftertreatment cooling fan.
The fan was operational.
Result: The aftertreatment cooling fan was shutdown due to high under hood temperatures. No repair is necessary. Return to service.
6. Check for an Open Circuit on the Fan Driver Circuit
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the 4-pin wiring harness connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect the engine ECM J1 connector.
D. Measure the resistance between the following pins:
- Pin 1 on the fan wiring harness connector and pin 20 on the J1 engine ECM wiring harness connector.
Open Circuit
Result: There was less than 10 Ohms of resistance between the pins.
Proceed to Test Step 7.
Result: There was more than 10 Ohms of resistance between the pins.
Repair: Repair or replace the wiring harness. Verify that the repair resolved the issue.
Return to service.
7. Check for a Short Circuit to Ground on the Fan Driver Circuit
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the 4-Pin wiring harness connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect the engine ECM J1 connector.
D. Measure the resistance between the following pins:
- Pin 1 on the fan wiring harness connector and a known good ground.
Short Circuit
Result: There was more than 100K Ohms of resistance between pin 1 and a known good ground.
Proceed to Test Step 8.
Result: There was less than 100k Ohms of resistance between pin1 and a known good ground.
Repair: Repair or replace the wiring harness. Verify that the repair resolved the issue.
Return to service.
8. Check for a Pin to Pin Short Circuit
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the 4-pin wiring harness connector from the aftertreatment cooling
