Information:
start by:a) remove mufflerb) remove fuel filter basec) remove fan drive The grille assembly, radiator, hydraulic oil cooler and fan are removed for better photo illustration of the removal and installation of the automatic timing advance. 1. Use tools (A) and (B) to put the fuel injection pump in correct timing with the engine. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for the timing procedure.2. Disconnect the wire from the fuel filter base support.3. Remove bolts (1) and the nuts. Remove the fuel filter base and muffler support brackets as a unit.4. Remove bolts (2) and nuts that hold the cover to the timing gear housing. Remove the automatic timing advance cover and gasket. 5. Remove four bolts (3) and retainer (5) from automatic timing advance (4). Remove the automatic timing advance.Install Automatic Timing Advance
1. Put automatic timing advance (1) in position on the fuel injection pump camshaft. Make alignment of the gears with the timing gears in the timing gear housing.2. Install the retainer and bolts that hold the automatic timing advance. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 50 lb.ft. (67.8 N m) with the timing pin in the fuel injection pump camshaft.3. Remove the timing pin and tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 5 lb.ft. (135.6 6.8 N m). If replacement of the stud for the automatic timing advance cover is needed, put PERMATEX Form-A-Gasket No. 2 or the equivalent on the threads of the new stud. Tighten the stud to a torque of 20 3 lb.ft. (27 4 N m). 4. Install the gasket and automatic timing advance cover (2) on the timing gear housing. Install the bolts and nuts that hold the timing advance cover on the timing gear housing.5. Put the fuel filter base and muffler support brackets in position on the engine and install the bolts and nuts to hold them.6. Connect the wire to the fuel filter base support.end by:a) install fan driveb) install fuel filter basec) install mufflerDisassemble Automatic Timing Advance
start by:a) remove automatic timing advance 1. Remove ring (1) and gear assembly (2) from the flange assembly.2. Remove the slides from the weights. 3. Remove springs (4) and weights (3) from the flange assembly.4. See the SPECIFICATIONS for spring information.Assemble Automatic Timing Advance
1. Put weights (2) in position in flange assembly (1) as shown.2. Install springs (3) in flange assembly (1). 3. If pistons (6) were removed from the gear assembly because of wear, use new parts for replacement. Install new pistons (6) until they are .435 .005 in. (11.05 .13 mm) above the inside surface of gear assembly (4). Move the metal (peen) on the outside surface of gear assembly (4) in four places around each piston to hold them in position.4. Use 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant to hold slides (5) in position on gear assembly (4).5. Install gear assembly (4) on flange assembly (1). Make sure slides (5) fit in grooves of the weights.6. Install the ring that holds gear assembly (4) to the flange assembly.end by:a) install automatic timing advance
