Start By:a. remove fan and fan drive1. Disconnect the batteries.
Typical Example2. Fasten a hoist to hood assembly (1). Remove the bolts and hood assembly (1) from the machine. The weight of the hood assembly is 38 kg (83 lb).
Typical Example3. Remove four bolts that hold pipes (2) in position. Loosen the clamp that holds elbow (3) in position. Remove the pipes and elbow. Pipes (2) and elbow (3) weigh 26 kg (58 lb).4. Loosen the clamps, holding elbows (4) and (6) in position, and remove pipe (5) and elbows. Pipe (5) and elbows (4) and (6) weigh 37 kg (82 lb).
Typical Example5. Loosen two clamps (8) and remove elbow (7). Follow the same procedure on the right side the machine also.
Typical Example6. Loosen clamps (10) and (16). Fasten a hoist to tube assembly (14) and (15). The weight of tube assembly (14), elbow and tube (15) is 25 kg (55 lb). Remove the bolts and strap from clamp (9). Remove tube assembly (14), elbow and tube (15) as a unit. Follow the same procedure on both sides.7. Loosen clamps (13). Fasten a hoist to tubes and elbows (12). The weight of tubes and elbows (12) is 27 kg (59 lb). Remove four clamps (11). Remove tubes and elbows (12) as a unit.
Typical Example8. Disconnect the ether aid tubes at fitting (17). Identify and mark all wires, connectors, hoses, lines and fittings to assure correct installation. Plug and cap all openings to prevent contamination and debris from entering the system.
Typical Example9. Remove the bolts and clips that hold wire harness (18) and hoses (20) to tube assembly (19). Lower the wire harness and hoses to the frame.10. Fasten a hoist to tube assembly (19). Remove bolts (21) and remove tube assembly (19). The weight of tube assembly (19) is 68 kg (150 lb).

Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Freon-12 (C C12 F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Freon-12 through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
11. Disconnect hose assemblies (22) and (23) from air conditioning compressor (21). 12. Disconnect the connectors on wiring harness (24) from the side of the cab. Remove all support clips holding the wiring harness to the machine frame. Store wiring harness (24) on the engine. 13. Disconnect three hoses from air dryer (25) and store them on the engine.
Typical Example14. Disconnect hoses (26) and (27) from the air starter.
Typical Example15. Disconnect ground wire (28) from the frame.
Typical Example16. Turn the fuel supply off at fuel tank shut-off valve (29).

Typical Example22. Loosen two hose clamps and disconnect hose (38) from tube (39).23. Disconnect hose assembly (40) from the brake oil cooler.
Typical Example24. Disconnect hose assembly (41) from tube assembly (42).
Typical Example25. Disconnect hose assembly (43) from the brake oil cooler.26. Remove bolt and clamp (44) and disconnect hose assembly (45) from the brake oil cooler.27. Remove the bolt and clamp that fastens hose assembly (43) to the front of the torque converter housing.
Typical Example28. Remove hose assembly (47) from elbow (48) and diverter valve (46). Loosen the hose clamps and remove hose (49).
Typical Example29. Disconnect hose assembly (50) from elbow (48).
Typical Example30. Disconnect hose assembly (51) from the torque converter inlet relief valve.31. Disconnect hose assemblies (52) and (53) from the torque converter housing.32. Disconnect hose assemblies (55) and (56) from torque converter oil pump (57).33. Disconnect hose assembly (54) from the parking brake release section of pump (57). 34. Disconnect hose (59) from the spacer block.36. Disconnect hose (58) and the spacer block from pump (57).37. Disconnect hose assemblies (60) and (61) from the brake cooling section of pump (57). 37. Disconnect hose assemblies (63), (64) and (65) from the lockup clutch valve.38. Disconnect hose assembly (65) from the torque converter housing.39. Remove main drive shaft guard (62).
Typical Example40. Remove fitting (67) and loosen the collar at the rear of yoke assembly (68), (part of main drive shaft).41. Remove the bolts that hold spider and bearing assembly (69) to the torque converter yoke.42. Slide yoke assembly (68) away from the torque converter yoke.
Typical Example43. Remove the bolts that hold drive shaft guard (71). Remove drive shaft guard (71).44. Remove bolts (72) and disconnect drive shaft (70), (auxiliary drive shaft).
Typical Example45. Remove the washers, bolts and nuts (74) that hold caps (73) in position. Remove caps (73) from both of the rear engine supports.
Typical Example46. If equipped, remove strap (75) from the engine front support.
Typical Example47. Remove the nuts, washers, and bolts (77). Remove top cushions (76) from both sides of engine front support (78).
Typical Example48. Fasten a hoist to the engine. Remove the engine and torque converter, from the truck. The weight of the engine and torque converter is approximately 8,375 kg (18,500 lb). The following steps are for installing the engine and torque converter
Typical Example49. Fasten a hoist to the engine. Put lower cushions (80) in position in engine front support (79). Put the engine and torque converter in position in the truck. Be sure mounting surfaces are free from paint or dirt.
