The fuel injection lines have been removed for picture clarity. The fuel injection lines do not have to be removed in order to remove the service meter.1. Disconnect and cap two fuel lines (1) from fuel transfer pump (2).2. Remove two bolts (3).3. Remove fuel transfer pump (2) and the gasket.Install Fuel Transfer Pump
1. Install the gasket on fuel transfer pump (2).2. Put fuel transfer pump (2) in position on the governor.3. Install two bolts (3).4. Connect two fuel lines (1) to the transfer pump.End By:a. install service meterDisassemble Fuel Transfer Pump
Start By:a. remove fuel transfer pump FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove fittings (3) and (4) from fuel transfer pump (5).2. Remove gasket (1) and O-ring seal (2) from fuel transfer pump (5). 3. Remove O-ring seal (6) from fitting (4). 4. Remove O-ring seal (7) from fitting (3). 5. Remove three socket head bolts (8).6. Remove cover (9) from the fuel transfer pump. 7. Remove lip seal (10) from cover (9). 8. Remove plug (11) from cover (9).9. Remove O-ring seal (12) from plug (11).10. Remove plug (17), two washers (16), seal (15), spring (14) and plunger (13) from cover (9).11. If necessary, remove the ferrule. 12. Remove nut (20) from the shaft.13. Remove gear (19) and the key from the shaft. 14. Remove shaft assembly (21) from body assembly (18).15. Remove gear (22) from body assembly (18). 16. Remove gear (23) from shaft (21). 17. Remove bearing (24) from body assembly (18).18. Remove two lip seals (25) from body assembly (18) 19. Remove valve (26), idler shaft (28), and bearing (27) from body assembly (18).Assemble Fuel Transfer Pump
1. Install valve (26) with Tooling (B).2. Install idler shaft (28) until flush with bottom of body assembly (18).3. Install bearing (27) with Tooling (A). Bearing (27) must not extend above the (gear) surface of body assembly (18). 4. Install first lip seal (25) with Tooling (C). Install first lip seal (25) until it is 26.19 0.13mm (1.031 .005 in) from the bottom (drive gear) surface and with the lip facing toward bearing (27).5. Install second lip seal (25) with Tooling (D). Install second lip seal (25) until it is 14.2 0.5 mm (.559 .020 in) from the bottom (drive gear) surface and with the lip facing away from bearing (27).6. Install bearing (24) in body assembly (18) with Tooling (E). The bearing (24) must be even with the bottom (drive gear) surface of the pump body. 7. Heat gear (23) to a maximum of 315° C (600° F). Install gear (23) on shaft (21) until dimension (X) is 49.71 0.25 mm (1.957 .010 in). 8. Install shaft assembly (21) in body assembly (18).9. Install gear (22) on idler shaft (28). 10. Install gear (19) on the shaft assembly.11. Install nut (20) on the shaft assembly. Tighten nut (20) to a torque of 30 7 N m (22 5 lb ft). 12. Install O-ring (12) on plug (11).13. Install plug (11) in cover (9).14. Install plunger (13), spring (14), seal (15), two washers (16) and plug (17) in cover (9). 15. Install lip seal (10) in cover (9) with Tooling (C). Install the seal until it is 22.61 0.05 mm (.890 .002 in) from the top surface of cover (9) and with lip facing toward gears (22) and (23).
Do not let the liquid gasket enter the pump during application or assembly.
16. Put 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket Material on the surface of cover (9).17. Install cover (9) on body assembly (18).18. Install three socket head bolts (8). The drive shaft must turn freely after socket head bolts (8) are tightened. 19. Install O-ring (7) on fitting (3). 20. Install O-ring on fitting (4). 21. Install fittings (3) and (4) in the fuel transfer pump.22. Install gasket (1) on the fuel transfer pump.23. Install O-ring seal (2) on the fuel transfer pump.End By:a. install fuel transfer pump
