Information:

Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publications Service Manuals, SENR3334, SENR5664, and NEDG5065 for the proper procedure, the proper equipment, and the proper tools needed in order to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar equipment.
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant.Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away to help prevent injury.Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a lit cigarette.Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to properly remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent contaminants from entering the oil system.
Evacuate the air conditioning system. See Service Manual, SENR5664 and Special Publication, NEDG5065 for detailed information about evacuating the air conditioning system of any Caterpillar machine.

Disconnect hose assemblies (6) and (8) from accumulator (4) . Note the location of the O-ring seals that are on hose assemblies (6) and (8) for installation purposes.
Remove two nuts (7) from U-bolt (3) . Remove U-bolt (3) , tube clamp (5) , and accumulator (4) from the mounting bracket.Installation Procedure
Illustration 3 g00287066
Install accumulator (4) , U-bolt (3) , tube clamp (5) , and two nuts (7) to the mounting bracket.
Check the condition of the O-ring seals that were removed from hose assemblies (6) and (8) . If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, replace the O-ring seals with new parts.
Connect hose assemblies (6) and (8) to accumulator (2) .

Install radiator guard (2) to the radiator guard and support group. Install eight bolts (1) to radiator guard (2) .
Personal injury or death can result when charging an air conditioning system with a liquid. The compressor will pump the refrigerant back into the charging cylinder with the possibility of rupturing (exploding) the cylinder.Do not operate the engine when charging with a liquid. Never charge liquid or gas through the discharge (high side of the system) with the engine running.Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or where they can be seen when working on the air conditioning system.
Note: The preferred method for charging any air conditioning system is reclamation of the refrigerant, evacuation of the system, and charging with the correct amount of refrigerant. The correct charge is 1.8 kg (4.0 lb) .
Evacuate the air conditioning system and charge the air conditioning system. See Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134a Refrigerant" and Special Publication, NEDG5065, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct procedure, for the tools, and for the proper equipment for charging the air conditioning system of any Caterpillar machine.
