Information:
The Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) can be used to view certain parameters that can affect the operation of the engine. Cat ET can also be used to change certain parameters. Some parameters cannot be changed and some applications do not allow any changes to the programmable monitoring system. The parameters are stored in the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Some of the parameters are protected from unauthorized changes by passwords. Parameters that can be changed have a tattletale number. The tattletale number shows if a parameter has been changed. The parameters are divided into two different types:Customer Specified Parameters - Customer passwords may be required to change the values of customer specified parameters.System Configuration Parameters - System configuration parameters affect the emissions of the engine or the power of the engine. Factory passwords may be required to change the values of system configuration parameters.

Typical configuration screen
Connect to Cat ET.
Select the Service tab.
Select the Configuration tab to view the configuration parameters. If an ECM is replaced, the appropriate parameters must be copied from the old ECM. Copy the parameters with the "Copy Configuration" feature of the Cat ET. The "Copy Configuration" tab is below the "Configuration" tab. Alternatively, the settings can be recorded on paper and then programmed into the configuration screen that is for the new module.
Changing the parameters during engine operation can cause the engine to operate erratically and can cause engine damage.Only change the settings of the parameters when the engine is STOPPED.
Check Programmable Parameters
Illustration 2 g02280534If a programmable parameter has not been programmed, the ECM will generate a 268-2 or 630-2 diagnostic code. The programmable parameter that is not programmed will be listed under the code. Illustration 2 shows the parameters that are not programmed under the 268-2 code. The unprogrammed parameters will be set to default. Certain aspects of the engines performance and engine monitoring may be affected. If "Injector Trim" is displayed below a 268-2 or 630-2 diagnostic code on Cat ET, refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Trim File - Install".Gas Analysis
Data from a gas analysis is required for determining if the fuel quality (heating value) of the LNG fuel meets the minimum requirements of the product. The data must be entered into the Caterpillar Software, LERW4485, "Gas Engine Rating Pro (GERP)". Refer to Application and Installation Guide, LEBT0003, "Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Powered Dynamic Gas Blending™ (DGB™) Large Mining Trucks" for more information on LNG specifications.Configurable Parameters
The system configuration parameters must be programmed when the application is installed. Program parameters before the initial engine start-up. Incorrect programming of parameters may lead to complaints about performance and/or to engine damage.
