Unlock the latch that holds the hood shut. Raise the hood and install the strut that holds the hood in the raised position.
Recover the air conditioner refrigerant from the air conditioner system. The correct charge is 1.1 kg (2.45 lb). Refer to Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134a Refrigerant" for the correct procedure. Refer to Special Publication, NEDG5065, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct tools.
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant.Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away to help prevent injury.Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a lit cigarette.Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to properly remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
Put identification marks on all hose, on all tubes and on all wires for installation purposes. Plug all hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Loosen bolt (4), bolt (6) and bolt (7) in order to adjust strut (5) and slacken the tension on V-belt (3). Remove the V-belt from the refrigerant compressor.
Remove bolt (4) and bolt (7) with the nuts and the washers that secure the refrigerant compressor to the top of the engine before removing the refrigerant compressor from the machine.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Illustration 5 g00928658
Position the refrigerant compressor onto the engine and strut (5) before installing bolt (4), bolt (7) and V-belt (3). Leave the bolts loose at this step.
Perform the following procedure in order to tension V-belt (3) .
Move the refrigerant compressor away from the engine in order to tension V-belt (3) .
Tighten bolt (4), bolt (6) and bolt (7) .
Illustration 6 g00928659
Check the adjustment of the V-belt.
Check the tension in V-belt (3) midway between the refrigerant compressor and the crankshaft pulley. A V-belt that is adjusted correctly will deflect approximately 10 mm (0.4 inch).
If the V-belt is not at the correct tension then loosen bolt (4), bolt (6), and bolt (7) before returning to Step 3.a.

Connect electrical wire (1) and hoses (2) to the refrigerant compressor.,, End By:
Charge the air conditioner system. The correct charge is 1.1 kg (2.45 lb). Refer to Service ManualSENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134a Refrigerant" for the correct procedure. Refer to Special PublicationNEDG5065, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct tools.
Remove the strut that holds the hood in the raised position. Stow the strut correctly. Lower the hood. Use the latch to lock the hood in place.
