Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
At operating temperature the implement hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. To prevent possible injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system before hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines and on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all lines and all hoses. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help keep contaminants from entering the system.
Lower the work tool to the ground.
Activate the parking brake.

In order to release the pressure in the hydraulic system, complete the following steps:
Move the lift control lever to the Float position.
Shut off the engine.
Move the lift control lever to the Hold position.
Open the access door on the right side of the machine next to the cab door. Release the oil pressure from the hydraulic tank by slowly pushing on the top of relief valve (1) before removing the filler cap. If the machine is not equipped with a relief valve (1), remove the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank slowly in order to relieve the pressure in the tank.
Carefully loosen the plugs from the head end of the tilt cylinders. When the oil is drained, Install the plugs.
The pressure in the hydraulic system has now been released.
Drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic tank is 235 L (62 US gal).

Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening filler cap (2) on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.
The capacity of the cooling system is 135 L (36 US gal).
