Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes
A. Turn the breaker to the ON position.
B. Establish communication between Cat ET and the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
C. Determine if a code is active or logged.
Codes
Result: An associated code is present.
Proceed to the appropriate troubleshooting procedure.
Result: A E964, 4335-17, or 4335-18 code is present.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check for Air Leaks
A. Turn the breaker to the OFF position.
B. Inspect the air supply lines to the dosing cabinet and inside the dosing cabinet for leaks.
Leaks
Result: No air leaks were found.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: An air leak was found.
Repair: Repair the air leak as necessary.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
3. Check the Air Supply to the Dosing Cabinet
A. Turn the breaker to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the air supply line to the dosing cabinet.
C. Install a pressure gauge on the air supply line to the dosing cabinet.
D. Turn the breaker to the ON position.
E. Connect Cat ET.
F. Use Cat ET to activate the following overrides:
- Aftertreatment #1 SCR Dosing Air Assist Valve Command Override
G. Monitor the air supply pressure to the dosing cabinet.
Air Supply
Result: The acceptable range of pressure is 724 - 1068 kPa (105 - 155 psi).
Connect all air lines to the dosing cabinet.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The recorded pressure is less than 724 kPa (105 psi).
There is a problem with the air supply to the dosing cabinet. Refer to the air compressor manufacturer or air supply source for the appropriate troubleshooting material.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem. Return to service.
4. Check the Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure Sensor
A. Turn the breaker to the ON position.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Monitor in the Cat ET status screen:
- "Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure"
- "Aftertreatment #1 DEF Dosing Pressure"
Sensor
Result: The recorded pressures are within 20 kPa (3 psi) of each other.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
Result: The recorded pressures are NOT within 20 kPa (3 psi) of each other.
Repair: Replace the Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure Sensor.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
5. Check the Air Assist Valve
A. Turn the breaker to the ON position.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Use Cat ET to activate the following overrides:
- Dosing Air Assist Valve Command Override
D. Monitor the "SCR Dosing Air Assist Absolute Pressure" in the Cat ET override screen.
Air Pressure
Note: Cat ET displays the air pressure for the dosing cabinet in absolute pressure. The EMCP panel shows the air pressure value in gauge pressure. When performing this test be sure to read the value from the Cat ET overrides screen.
Result: The acceptable range of pressure is 515 - 570 kPa (74.7 - 82.7 psi).
The system is working properly. Return to service.
Result: The recorded pressure is less than 515 kPa (74.7 psi).
Repair: Replace the air pressure regulator on the air manifold.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem. Return to service.
If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
