Information:

Tachometer - Indicates engine rpm. When the throttle control lever is moved to the full speed position without load, the engine is running at high idle. When the throttle control lever is at the full speed position with maximum rated load, the engine is running at the full load rpm (assuming the engine and load are matched). The engine can be operated at high idle without damage, but should never be allowed to exceed high idle rpm with little or no load. The high idle rpm, and the full load rpm, are stamped on the engine's 9L6531 Information Plate.
Service Hour Meter - Indicates the total number of clock hours the engine has operated.
Engine Oil Pressure - Indicates engine oil pressure. The pressure reading will be greatest after starting a cold engine. Oil pressure will decrease as the engine warms while idling. As the engine speed is increased to full load speed, oil pressure will increase and stabilize. Normal oil pressure should read 240 to 480 kPa (35 to 70 psi) when the engine is running between 600 and 2100 rpm with SAE 10W30 oil, at operating oil temperature of 105°C (220°F).* 100 to 200 kPa (15 to 30 psi) below 600 rpmIf the gauge reading fluctuates after the load is stable:1. Remove the load.2. Reduce engine speed to low idle.3. Check and maintain oil level.
Engine Jacket Water Temperature - Indicates engine coolant water temperature. The gauge should normally indicate between 70 and 90°C (170 and 195°F). The water temperature reading may vary according to load, but should never exceed the boiling temperature for the pressurized system being used. Maximum allowable temperature is 99°C (210°F).
Never add coolant to an overheated engine; allow to cool first. Engine damage and/or personal injury may occur.
The jacket water inlet temperature is regulated with thermostats in the system. Always operate the engine with thermostats installed. Refer to the Cooling System-Thermostats topic in the Maintenance Section of this manual.Somewhat higher temperatures than described above may occur under certain conditions. Maximum allowable operating temperature is 105°C (220°F) with the cooling system pressurized. If the engine is operating above normal range and steam becomes apparent:1. Reduce the load and engine rpm.2. Inspect for cooling system for leaks.3. Determine if the engine must be shutdown immediately or if the engine can be cooled by reducing the load.
Fuel Pressure - Indicates fuel pressure to the injection pump from the fuel filter. The indicator should register in the NORMAL (green) range. If the pressure indicator moves to the OUT position or registers below 140 kPa (20 psi) when equipped with a numerical gauge, the engine will not operate properly becuase the fuel filter element is clogged. A drop in fuel pressure usually indicates a dirty or plugged fuel filter.Optional Gauges
Engine Oil Temperature - Indicates engine oil temperature. The purpose of the oil is to lubricate all moving parts inside the engine, and to cool the pistons and bearings. The oil cooler transfers the heat in the oil to the engine jacket water. If the cooling system cannot remove the necessary heat from the water, the engine oil cannot be properly cooled. Higher than normal oil temperature indicates a heat problem has occurred in the lubrication and/or cooling system, and a problem can occur with cylinder heads, liners, pistons or bearings. Maximum oil temperature is 105°C (220°F).
Inlet Air Temperature - Indicates inlet manifold air temperature. As the inlet air increases in temperature, the air expands, less oxygen is available in the cylinders, and less power is developed. As a result, at full speed position with a full load, the engine may be overloaded. Maximum inlet manifold air temperature is 85°C (185°F).
Exhaust Stack Temperature - Indicates exhaust gas temperature. Maximum exhaust temperature is approximately 575°C (1065°F).
Ammeter - Indicates the amount of charge or discharge in the battery charging circuit. Normal operation of the indicator should be slightly to the positive (right) side of "0" (zero). With the engine running, during normal operation, if the indicator is constantly to the negative (left) side of "0" (zero) or shows excessive charge, have the charging system checked for malfunction.
Fuel Level- Indicates fuel level in the fuel tank.
Marine Transmission Oil Temperature - Indicates marine transmission oil temperature. The marine transmission oil temperature depends upon the temperature and the quantity of water pumped through the marine transmission oil cooler. Some marine transmissions have raw water pumped through the oil cooler and some have a system integrated with the engine jacket water system which is pumped through the oil cooler. The transmission oil temperature range is 60 to 99°C (140 to 210°F). The normal operating range is 66 to 79°C (150 to 175°F).
Marine Transmission Oil Pressure - Indicates marine transmission oil pressure. The oil pressure depends on the temperature and quantity of oil pumped through the oil system. If the marine transmission oil is hot, the pressure will be less than if the oil is cold. Refer to the Marine Transmission Operation & Maintenance Manual for operating instructions and limits for temperatures and pressures. If the oil strainer is plugged, or if there is a restriction in either the oil pump, selector valve, or lines, the pressure will be less than the minimum pressure required. Low oil pressure will result in excessive marine transmission clutch wear. If this occurs, the oil temperature will increase and oil pressure will decrease.
Oil Filter Differential Pressure - Indicates the difference of oil pressure between the inlet side (dirty side) and the outlet side (clean side) of the oil filter. As the element becomes plugged, the difference in pressure between the two sides of the element will increase. Oil filter maximum pressure differential is 105 kPa (15 psi).
Air Cleaner Differential Pressure - Indicates the difference of air pressure between the inlet side (dirty side) and the engine side (clean side) of the air filter element. As the element becomes plugged, the difference in pressure between the two sides of the element will increase.Maximum air cleaner pressure differential is 7.5 kPa (30 in) water. However, 4 kPa (15
