Information:

Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
There have been instances of the following diagnostic code becoming active:
4364–2 (E1410 (2)) Aftertreatment #1 SCR Catalyst Conversion Efficiency : Erratic, Intermittent, or IncorrectThe current troubleshooting procedure does not always resolve the issue satisfactorily.Caterpillar is investigating the root cause of these issues. To support the investigation, perform the following steps, document the results, and record the results through "CPI Feedback" within the Service Information Management System (SIMSi).Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Use the electronic service tool to generate a Product Status Report (PSR). Save the PSR.
Confirm that the installed engine software is the latest available software.
Use the electronic service tool to check if any diagnostic codes other than 4364–2 (E1410 (2)) are active. Troubleshoot other active diagnostic codes before continuing with this procedure. Refer to Troubleshooting, Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Troubleshooting, Event Codes.
Remove the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.

Typical example of DEF deposits in the CEM mixer assembly
Use a suitable borescope to inspect and photograph inside the Clean Emissions Module (CEM) mixer assembly. Save any photographs.
Illustration 2 g06305048
Typical example of droplets forming on the DEF injector nozzle
Use the electronic service tool to perform a "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test". Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, Aftertreatment SCR System Dosing - Test. Take photographs or video of the results of the dosing test.If droplets form around the DEF injector nozzle during the prime pressurization phase of the test, install a replacement DEF injector. Refer to Illustration 2. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.Perform the "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test" a second time. Performing the test a second time will improve the accuracy of the amount of DEF collected. If the amount of DEF collected during the "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test" is not between 105 mL (3.6 oz) and 130 mL (4.4 oz), install a replacement DEF injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.Observe the spray pattern from the DEF injector during the dosing phase of the "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test". The spray should be finely atomized and conical with even spray all round. If the spray pattern is not correct, install a replacement DEF injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.Note: To observe the spray pattern clearly from the DEF injector, it may be necessary to run the "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test" again using a suitable large container to collect the DEF.
If the DEF injector was replaced in Step 6, submit the following information through CPI Feedback within SIMSi:
TIB Media number M0093701
CPI number 412824
CEM serial number
DEF injector serial number
Dealer Code
Work order number or service claim numberRetain the DEF injector for possible Parts Return Request (PRR).
If necessary, reinstall the DEF injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.
Complete the troubleshooting steps in Troubleshooting, NOx Conversion Is Low.Note: If necessary, repeat the "Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure" several times to clear the DEF deposits. The success of the "Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure" can be improved by covering the radiator to increase the engine coolant temperature. The coolant temperature and charge air cooler outlet temperature must be monitored on the electronic service tool while the radiator is covered.Note: An SCR inlet temperature greater than 370° C (698° F) will improve the success rate of the "Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure". This can be achieved by increasing the engine load by applying electrical load. Do not let the SCR inlet temperature rise above 450° C (842° F).
Remove the DEF injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.
Illustration 3 g06305355
Typical example of a CEM mixer with DEF deposits cleared
Use a suitable borescope to inspect and photograph inside the Clean Emissions Module (CEM) mixer assembly. Confirm the DEF deposits have been removed. Save any photographs.Note: If the DEF deposits have not been cleared, repeat the "Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure".
Reinstall the DEF injector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting - Remove and Install.
Ensure that the operator is aware that the parking brake must be applied when operating the hoe. Especially when the engine speed is below 1500rpm or when the machine is working under low hydraulic load.Use of the parking brake is essential to support the elevation of idle speed for thermal management of the aftertreatment to reduce DEF deposit build-up from low load/ low engine speed operation.
Use the electronic service tool to generate another PSR, irrespective of the outcome of this procedure. Ensure that the PDF and the XML versions of the PSR are downloaded, with the histogram option selected in the download list.If the troubleshooting steps have required a component to be replaced, hold all replaced components for 30 days for a possible Parts Return Request. Include all the closed work order paperwork.
Submit the following information through "CPI Feedback" within SIMSi:
TIB media number M0093701
CPI number 412824
Detailed description of the symptom experienced and under what operating conditions the issue occurred
PSR from before and after troubleshooting. Ensure that the PDF and the XML versions of the PSR are downloaded, with the histogram option selected in the download list.
Photographs from inside the mixer assembly showing DEF deposits and after deposits have been cleared
DEF injector serial number
CEM serial number
Dealer code
Work order or service claim number for PRR
Aftertreatment regeneration summary report from the engine ECM
