Information:
Inducement Strategy for DEF Quality and Tampering
Faults resulting from poor DEF quality or faults that could be considered tampering with the SCR system act as inducement triggers.
DEF quality faults are detected after the SCR system dosing begins.
Some tampering faults are detected after engine startup and some faults are detected after the SCR system begins dosing.Note: Faults that require dosing to be detected also require dosing to self-correct.

Event Code None 5246-15 5246-16 5246-0 There are 3 levels of inducement for DEF quality and tampering faults.A first occurrence will result in a level 1 inducement for a duration of 150 minutes.Repeat occurrences will result in a level 1 inducement for a duration of 15 minutes.Level 1 results in the following:
Amber emissions warning light
Audible alarm
5246-15 Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement Severity : High - least severe (1)When a fault condition exists for the entire duration of the inducement level, the strategy will advance to the next inducement level. The duration for level 2 (first occurrence) is 30 minutes and level 2 (repeat occurrence) is 15 minutes.Level 2 results in the following:
Amber emissions warning light
Audible alarm
5246-16 Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement Severity : High - moderate severity (2)Level 3 results in the following:
Red emissions warning light
Audible alarm
5246-0 Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement Severity : High - most severe (3)The engine will run at the "Cooldown RPM" (rated speed or idle) for the sum of the "Cooldown Durations" configured into the engine ECM and EMCP but for no more than 10 minutes maximum. Ifcooldown is disabled for both the engine ECM and the EMCP then the engine will run at rated speed with no load for a total of 10 minutes before shutting down.Inducement Counters
"Time Until Inducement"
This down counter displays the engine run time left until a level 3 inducement will take place for either of the following:
DEF Quality and Tampering
Frozen DEFThe counter becomes active when a level 1 inducement starts or level 2 inducement starts or when the fault check override mode is entered. The counter will be set to 2.5 hours when a level 1 inducement occurs. The counter will be set to .5 hour when a level 2 inducement occurs. The counter will be set to 1 hour when the fault check override mode is entered. The normal range of the counter is 2.8 to 0 hours.Note: This counter will be inactive when the engine is not running or has reached 0 hours. Under these conditions the counter will display ****.Note: This counter is only viewable on the EMCP display. To view the counter, navigate to the "Engine Aftertreatment" screens using the EMCP touchpad."Time Since Last Inducement"
This up counter displays the engine run time since the last inducement event cleared for either of the following:
DEF Quality and Tampering
Frozen DEFIf another inducement event occurs before the counter reaches 40 hours, then inducement will go straight to level 3 and the counter will reset to 0 hours. When this counter completes 40 hours, the logged inducement level 1, 2 or 3 will automatically clear. The normal range of the counter is 0 to 40 hours.Note: This counter will be inactive when the engine is not running or has reached 40 hours. Under these conditions the counter will display ****.Note: This counter is only viewable on the EMCP display. To view the counter, navigate to the "Engine Aftertreatment" screens using the EMCP touchpad.Power Cycle
System faults will persist through power cycles. If the power is cycled during level 1, the "Time Until Inducement" counter will resume where the counter previously stopped in level 1.If the power is cycled during level 2 or level 3, the engine will be allowed idle-only operation upon restart for either of the following:
Dosing is not required for the fault to self-correct
The fault is a repeat occurrenceIf the power is cycled during level 2 or level 3, the engine will enter fault check override mode upon restart, if both of the following are true:
Dosing is required for the fault to self-correct
The fault is not a repeat occurrenceFault Check Override Mode
The fault check override mode is provided in order to troubleshoot faults that require dosing to self-correct.Fault check override mode allows full operation of the engine for up to 60 minutes. Certain faults can only self-correct if sufficient engine load is applied to raise exhaust temperature into the range where DEF dosing occurs. The feature provides the operator the opportunity to confirm that a repair was successful. The system will indicate a level 2 fault while in fault check override mode. The fault check override mode may be used once during the first occurrence of a fault. The fault check override resets after 40 hours of engine operation, that is free of DEF quality faults and tampering faults.Fault check override is considered used and may not be repeated for any of the following:
The fault self-corrects during fault check override mode and the 40 hour fault-free timer has not elapsed
The fault fails to self-correct during the 60 minute fault check override mode. The system will advance to level 3 inducement.
The power is cycled during fault check override mode. The engine will be allowed idle-only operation at start-up.Faults that will Enable the Fault Check Override Mode
