Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read this Special Instruction and you understand this information. Use only proper tools and observe all precautions that pertain to the use of those tools. Failure to follow these procedures can result in personal injury. The following procedures should be observed.Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs.A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person must also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly.Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance of a potential hazard. Therefore, the warnings in this publication and the warnings that are on the product are not all inclusive. Avoid using a tool, a procedure, a work method, or operating technique that is not recommended by Caterpillar.Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product will be made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or the repair procedures.
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Personal injury can result from improper handling of chemicals.Make sure you use all the necessary protective equipment required to do the job.Make sure that you read and understand all directions and hazards described on the labels and material safety data sheet of any chemical that is used.Observe all safety precautions recommended by the chemical manufacturer for handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.
Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment. To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.

ELECTROCUTION HAZARD - The electrical system contains hazardous voltage levels.DO NOT remove any covers that will expose energized hazardous-voltage electrical components without shutting down and discharging the electrical system.DO NOT perform any maintenance on the electrical system until after the electrical system has been shut down and the voltage has been discharged by qualified personnel.Read and understand the instructions and warnings found in the Operation and Maintenance Manual to properly shut down the electrical system and discharge hazardous-voltage electrical components.Failure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury or death.
Procedure to Change Natural Gas Engine Oil
Perform the following procedure to change the synthetic high-performance Natural Gas Engine Oil (NGEO) in the engine.
Drain the oil immediately after the equipment is shut down.Note: The system will allow excess oil to be drained immediately after shutdown due to the oil being less viscous at operating temperature.
Remove oil filter, clean the oil filter housings, and oil storage tank.
Clean the oil pan to remove as much of the existing oil as possible.
Install a new 431-0801 Oil Filter Element As compatible with synthetic high-performance NGEO.
Use the procedure in the appropriate, Operation and Maintenance Manual to fill the engine with synthetic high-performance NGEO.
Run the engine for 1 hour with 30 to 100 percentage load to flush the system for any residual oil.
Use the procedure in the appropriate, Operation and Maintenance Manual to drain/fill the engine with synthetic high-performance NGEO.Note: For information on Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS) procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, M0094096, M0103684, and M0103791.
