Information:


At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gage to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
Hot engine oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot engine oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Remove elbow (1), tube (2) and the O-ring seals from the engine oil cooler.2. Remove the three bolts that hold bypass valve assembly (4) to the engine oil cooler. Remove bypass valve (4) and tube (3). Remove the two O-ring seals from tube (3).
Cover (8) is under spring pressure. Slowly remove the two bolts until the spring pressure has been released. Failure to do so could cause personal injury.
3. To disassemble the bypass valve, remove cover (8), spring (7) and valve (6) from elbow (5). Remove the O-ring seal from elbow (5). 4. Put a lifting sling in position around the oil cooler as shown. Attach the lifting sling to a suitable lifting device.5. Remove the two nuts and the washers. Remove tube assembly (12) and the gasket from the tube assembly flange located on the oil pan.6. Remove tube (11), the adapter, and the O-ring seals from the engine oil cooler.7. Disconnect tube (10), and remove the gasket from the adapter.8. Remove two bolts (13) that fasten engine oil cooler (9) to the bracket. 9. Remove the six bolts that fasten bonnet (14) to the engine oil cooler. Remove bonnet (14) and the gasket from the engine oil cooler.10. Disconnect tube assembly (16). Remove four bolts (15) that fasten the engine oil cooler to the engine block. Remove the engine oil cooler from the machine. The weight of the engine oil cooler is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).11. Remove the remaining bonnet and the gasket from engine oil cooler (9). Carefully clean the tube bundles in the engine oil cooler with a 3.2 mm (.125 in) diameter rod. The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil cooler.12. Check the O-ring seals for wear or damage, and replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring seals with glycerin or clean engine oil prior to assembly.13. Replace all of the gaskets prior to assembly. 14. Put bonnet (14) and the gasket in position on the engine oil cooler. Install the six bolts that fasten bonnet (14) to the engine oil cooler.15. Put a lifting sling in position around the engine oil cooler. Attach the lifting sling to a suitable lifting device. Put the engine oil cooler in position on the engine block. Install four bolts (15).16. Connect tube assembly (16) to bonnet (14). 17. Install two bolts (13) that hold oil cooler (9) to the bracket.18. Connect tube (10) and the gasket to the adapter.19. Put dipstick tube assembly (12) in position on the tube assembly flange located on the oil pan.20. Remove the lifting strap from oil cooler (9). 21. Assemble the bypass valve as follows: a. Put valve (6) and spring (7) in elbow (5). Install the O-ring seal on elbow (5).b. Put cover (8) in position on elbow (5), and install the two bolts that hold cover (5). 22. Put the O-ring seals in position, and install tube (3) in bypass valve assembly (4). Put bypass valve assembly (4), the O-ring seal and tube (3) in position on the oil cooler. Install the three bolts that hold bypass valve assembly (4) to the engine oil cooler.23. Put the O-ring seals in position, and install tube (2) in elbow (1). Put elbow (1), the O-ring seal and tube (2) in position on the engine oil cooler. Install the four bolts that hold elbow (1) to the engine oil cooler.24. Fill the engine with engine oil to the correct level.
