( 1 ) Cut 376-8697 guide studs to 18 inch lengths. Four 18 inch guide studs are required.Start By:
Remove the heat exchanger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Heat Exchanger - Remove".Note: The following story is for 373-2560373-2562 Sea Water Heat Exchanger Gp .Note: The disassembly procedure can be performed while on the engine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Put identification marks on all plate assemblies for installation purposes.

Use suitable cribbing to place the heat exchanger in a flat position on the frame assembly. This position can help ensure proper alignment during the procedure.
Remove bolts (1) from the corners and the spacers. Install Tooling (B) . Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of the nut and the threads of the guide stud prior to installation. Install the thrust bearing, the hard washer, and the nuts on the guide stud. Ensure that Tooling (B) is securely installed. Place two nuts together and tighten the outer nut in order to install Tooling (B) . Position the thrust bearing, the hard washer, and one nut against front frame (2) .

Remove bolts (3) and the spacers. Install Tooling (A) .

Remove bolts (4) and bottom spacers (5) . Top spacers (5) will be removed after the front frame is loosened.
Loosen the nuts on Tooling (B) evenly. Ensure that Tooling (B) does not loosen from the frame assembly.Note: Do not loosen the nuts more than one turn per nut until the heat exchanger plates are no longer compressed.Note: As the front frame rises, the heat exchanger plates will slide along Tooling (A) .
Remove the top spacers from Step 4.
Remove Tooling (B) and Tooling (A) .

Note: Note the order and orientation of the heat exchanger plates and the seals during removal.
Remove front frame (2) , heat exchanger plates (6) , and the seals. Discard the seals.Note: A seal may stick to the front frame during removal.Note: Check the O-ring seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

Remove seals (7) from elbows (8) .
Remove zinc rods (9) and elbows (8) . Note the orientation of elbows (8) prior to removal.
Remove inserts (10) .
