Information:
Table 1
Event Code
Description Conditions which Activate the Code System Response
E264 (3) Emergency Stop Activated An "Emergency Stop" button is pressed. The shutdown output is activated. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) de-energizes the gas shutoff valve. the ECM terminates the ignition. The code is logged.
E268 (3) Unexpected Engine Shutdown The "crank terminate relay" output is on. However, the engine speed is less than the "postlube speed". The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down.
E269 (3) Customer Shutdown Requested The engine is either cranking or running. The "normal stop" input is disconnected from the digital return or from the −Battery. Note: Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System" for information on trip points and delay times. The ignition is immediately terminated when an emergency stop button is pressed. Unburned gas remains in the air inlet and exhaust system.
Unburned gas in the air inlet and exhaust system may ignite when the engine is started. Personal injury and/or property damage may result. Before starting an engine that may contain unburned gas, purge the unburned gas from the air inlet and exhaust system. Refer to the topic on purging unburned gas in the "Starting the Engine" section.
Probable Causes For a 264-3 or 269-3 Code
The "Emergency Stop" button is pressed.
The circuit for the emergency stop is faulty.
The "normal stop" input is not connected to the digital return or to the −Battery.Probable Causes For a 268-3 Code
There is a problem with the Gas Shutoff Valve (GSOV).
Incorrect inputs for the mode of operation to the master Electronic Control Module (ECM)
There is a problem with the "Crank Terminate" relay.
There is a problem with the relay for the starting motor.
A shutdown has been requested by the driven equipment.
There is a problem with the "Run" relay.
The "Crank Terminate Speed" is incorrectly programmed.
The "Cycle Crank Time" is incorrectly programmed.
The "Engine Overcrank Time" is incorrectly programmed.
The delay time for the driven equipment is excessive.
There is a problem with the harness code for an ECM .
There is a problem with the input for the keyswitch to the throttle actuator. The throttle will not respond to commands from the master ECM when the input is low.Recommended Repairs For a 264-3 or 269-3 Code
Talk to the operator
Ask the operator if the stop was intentional. Make sure that the reason for the stop has been corrected. Reset the control system. Resume normal operation. If the stop was accidental, reset the control system. Resume normal operation.Check the Circuit for the Stop Switches
Note: The circuit for the normal stop switch and the circuit for the emergency stop switch must remain closed in order for the engine to run.Inspect the wiring between the switches and the connector of the electronic control module. Look for damage and/or corrosion. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".For the emergency stop switch, close the switch and check the resistance between terminals P1-22 and P1-31. The expected value is less than five Ohms. For the "normal stop" input, check the resistance between terminals P1-23 and P1-31. The expected value is less than five Ohms.If either resistance is greater than five Ohms, locate the source of the excessive resistance. Make repairs, as needed.Inspect the Emergency Stop Switches
Inspect the stop switches for evidence of damage that has been caused by vibration. Disassemble the switches. Inspect the components for looseness, for cracks, and for abrasion. Use an ohmmeter and toggle the switches in order to check for proper electrical operation.Replace any faulty components.Recommended Repairs For a 268-3 Code
Check the Circuit for the GSOV
Troubleshoot for the following diagnostic codes:
17-05 Fuel Shutoff Valve : Current Below Normal
17-06 Fuel Shutoff Valve : Current Above Normal
17-12 Fuel Shutoff Valve : FailureRefer to Troubleshooting, "Fuel Control - Test". Make repairs, as needed.Check the Inputs for the Mode of Operation to the Master ECM
Troubleshoot for the 336-02 Engine Control Switch : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect diagnostic code.Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Power Supply - Test". Make repairs, as needed.Check the "Crank Terminate" Relay
Troubleshoot for the 443-03 Crank Terminate Relay : Voltage Above Normal diagnostic code.Refer to Troubleshooting, "Indicator Lamp - Test". Make repairs, as needed.Check the "Start" Relay
Troubleshoot for the following diagnostic codes:
444-05 Starter Motor Relay : Current Below Normal
444-06 Starter Motor Relay : Current Above NormalRefer to Troubleshooting, "Starting - Test". Make repairs, as needed.
