2. Disconnect clips (2) and (3) from the cylinder head.3. Disconnect the wires from the glow plugs and remove glow plug wire lead assembly (1). 4. Remove braces (4) that go between the cylinder head and the radiator.5. Disconnect hose (5) from the inlet elbow. Disconnect wire (6) for the water temperature from the engine. 6. Disconnect heater hoses (8) and (9) (if so equipped).7. Remove elbow (7). 8. Fasten a hoist to the cylinder head as shown. Remove bolts (10) that hold the cylinder head in place. The bolts nearest the lifting eyes must be removed with the head.9. Remove the cylinder head. The weight of the cylinder head is 190 lb. (86 kg).Install Cylinder Head
1. Clean the surfaces of the cylinder head and the cylinder block that make contact with each other. Make sure the surfaces are clean and dry. Install a new, dry gasket on the cylinder block.2. Make sure the bolts that were removed with the cylinder head is installed in the head. Put 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads. 3. Fasten a hoist to cylinder head (1). Put the head in position on the cylinder block.4. Put 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound on all the head bolts and rocker shaft bolts. Install the head bolts and washer that hold the head in place. Do not tighten bolts at this time. 5. Install the push rods and rocker shaft assembly (2). Install the bolts and washers that hold the rocker shaft assembly in place.6. Tighten the bolts as follows: a) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 in number sequence to a torque of 115 lb.ft. (155 N m).b) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 again in number sequence to a torque of 175 5 lb.ft. (240 7 N m).c) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 again in number sequence (hand tighten only) to a torque of 175 5 lb.ft. (240 7 N m).d) Tighten bolts A through E in letter sequence to a torque of 22 lb.ft. (28 N m).e) Tighten bolts A through E again in letter sequence to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (43 7 N m).f) Tighten bolts A through E again in letter sequence (hand tighten only) to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (43 7 N m).7. Make adjustments until the intake valve clearance is .015 in. (0.38 mm) and the exhaust valve clearance is .025 in. (0.64 mm). See ENGINE VALVE LASH as shown in OPERATION, LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE. Tighten the locknuts for the adjustment screws to a torque of 21 5 lb.ft. (26 7 N m).8. Put the valve cover in position and install the bolts. See INSTALL VALVE COVER for correct torque and tightening sequence.9. Connect the wire for the water temperature. 10. Install braces (4) between the radiator and the cylinder head. Connect radiator outlet hose (3) to the inlet elbow.11. Connect clips (6) and (7) to the cylinder head.12. Install glow plug wire lead assembly (5) to the valve cover. Connect the leads to the glow plugs. 13. Connect heater hose (9) (if so equipped) to the cylinder head.14. Install elbow (8) that goes between the head and the water pump.15. Connect the heater hose (if so equipped) to the elbow.16.
