Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove six bolts and washers (1) and remove grill assembly (2) from radiator guard assembly (3). 2. Disconnect wiring harness (4) from horn and remove bolt, washer and clip (5) from radiator and set aside. 3. Attach tooling (A) to radiator guard (2) and secure to hoist as shown.4. Remove bolts and washers (6). 5. Remove four bolts and washers (7).6. Remove radiator guard (2) from frame. Weight of radiator (2) is 55 kg (120 lb).
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam Any contact can cause severe burns, Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
7. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container. Drain the hydraulic oil into a different suitable container. 8. Loosen clamp (8) and remove upper radiator hose (9). 9. Loosen clamp (10), and remove lower radiator hose (11).10. Disconnect two hydraulic cooler hose assemblies (12) and (13). 11. Loosen nut (14) to release tension from belt (18).
