start by:a) remove fuel injection linesb) remove fuel ratio control1. Make a setting of the fuel injection pump timing as follows: a) Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A) until the No. 1 piston is at top center of the compression stroke. See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in 3406 VEHICULAR ENGINE, TESTING AND ADJUSTING.b) Install the timing pin in the flywheel.c) Remove the plug from the side of the fuel injection pump housing. Install tool (B) through the hole in the pump housing and into the notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft. If tool (B) can not be installed in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft, the fuel injection pump is not in time with the engine and the following procedure must be followed. d) Remove nuts (1). Remove cover (2) and gasket for the automatic timing advance. e) Loosen four bolts (3) until retainer (4) is loose. f) Remove two of the bolts 180° apart. Install tooling (C) in their place.g) Put a bar between the bolts and turn the fuel injection pump drive shaft clockwise until tool (B) can be installed in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft.h) Remove tooling (C). Install the bolts so the washer is loose.i) Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the engine 60° counterclockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A).j) Tighten the bolts that hold the washer to the automatic timing advance by hand. Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A) until the No. 1 piston is at top center compression stroke.k) Tighten bolts (3) in the following sequence: 1. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 25 lb.ft. (35 N m).2. Remove tool (B).3. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 50 lb.ft. (70 N m).4. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 100 5 lb.ft. (135 7 N m).
Do not tighten bolts (3) to a final torque without the removal of tool (B).
l. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) two complete revolutions and check the timing to see that the timing is correct. If the timing is correct, do not remove tool (B) from the fuel injection pump housing or the timing bolt from the flywheel.m) If the timing is not correct, do the procedure in Step e through l again.2. Disconnect the fuel supply and fuel return lines from the fuel injection pump. 3. Disconnect governor control linkage (5) from the lever. 4. Remove bolts (7) that hold the fuel injection pump to the engine block.5. Fasten a nylon strap and a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing and governor. Remove bolts (8) that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the fuel injection pump and governor drive housing.6. Remove fuel injection pump housing and governor (6). The weight is 70 lb. (32 kg).Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor
1. Fasten a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing. Put fuel injection pump housing and governor (1) in position on the fuel injection pump and governor drive.2. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the fuel injection pump and governor drive. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the cylinder block. 3. Connect governor control linkage (2) to the lever.4. Connect the fuel supply and fuel return lines to the fuel injection pump.5. Remove tool (A) from the injection pump housing. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine), and check the timing to see that the timing is correct. If the timing is not correct, see REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for the timing procedure.6. Remove tool (A) from the pump housing. Install the plug in the pump housing. 7. Install gasket (3) and cover (4) for the automatic timing advance.8. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel.end by:a) install fuel ratio controlb) install fuel injection linesSeparation Of Governor From Fuel Injection Pump Housing
start by:a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor 1. Remove bolt (1). Remove cover (2). 2. Remove bolts (3). Remove cover (4) from the governor housing.3. Remove the strainer from the cover. 4. Remove
