PROBLEM
Two 244-8593 gears in Reman C175 engines may have been installed incorrectly (backwards) at the factory. If these gears are run in service, they may have increased wear and reduced life.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect and possibly rework the following C175 Reman engines in dealer parts stock:

For Reman C175 engines in dealer stock, perform the following steps.
Inspect:
Use a boroscope to inspect for incorrectly installed gears.
On the right-hand side (high pressure fuel pump side), check the gap between the 244-8593 and 255-4445 gears, which should be approximately 3mm per Image 1. If incorrectly installed, the gap will be significantly smaller than 3mm (or non-existent).
On the left-hand side (oil pump side), inspect the 244-8593 gear (lower gear in Image 2). If a ~3mm offset is present per Image 2, the gear was installed backwards.
Rework gear on right-hand side:
If the gap was found to be incorrect during inspection, remove the high pressure fuel pump, remove the high pressure fuel pump adapter and lines, remove gears, clean parts, and flip gear 244-8593 180? (it was installed backwards). Reassemble. Tighten the bolts that hold the gear to the shaft to 55+/-10 Nm.
Rework gear on the left-hand side:
If a ~3mm offset was found between the gears during inspection, remove the oil pump, remove gears, separate, clean parts, and flip gear 244-8593 180? (it was installed backwards). Reassemble.

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Submit a claim for the engines reworked in dealer parts stock and/or dealer exchange inventory.Parts:When reworking gears found to be installed incorrectly, this Service Letter allows one new 165-4852 o-ring seal per gear reworked.Labor:1 hour will be allowed for inspection of both gears.If an incorrectly installed 244-8593 gear is found on the right-hand side (high pressure fuel pump side side), 20 hours will be allowed for rework. One or both gears may be incorrectly installed.If an incorrectly installed 244-8593 gear is found on the left-hand side (oil pump side), 10 hours will be allowed for rework. One or both gears may be incorrectly installed.Include engine serial number, arrangement number, and work required in the service claim story for each Reman C175 engine inspected and/or repaired.
