Schematic for the J1939 Data LinkIllustration 1 shows the connection of modules to the J1939 data link. The following requirements must be met for installation of modules on the J1939 data link:
153-2707 Cable (Shielded Twisted Pair) must be used for all J1939 data link wiring. If the Caterpillar recommended cable is not used, the cable must meet J1939 standards.

The total length of the data link must not exceed 40 m (130 ft).
All splices into the data link require a 133-0970 Receptacle As (Tee).
A 174-3016 Receptacle As (Termination Resistor) must be installed at the end of the data link in order to ensure proper operation.Note: A termination resistor for the J1939 data link is included in the Caterpillar supplied wiring harness to the customer connector. One additional termination resistor must be installed at the end of the data link.Use the following procedure to connect modules to the J1939 data link:

Connector sockets
Run the J1939 data link from the customer connector to a module.Note: The end of the data link must be within approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) of the module. The total length of the data link must not exceed 40 m (130 ft).
Run 153-2707 Cable (Shielded Twisted Pair) from the customer connector to the location of the first module. Cut the
