Information:
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.1. Remove the engine front hood. The weight of the hood is 84 kg (185 lb).
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. 3. Remove the top and side rows of bolts that hold radiator guard (1) to radiator support (2).4. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist on guard assembly (1) as shown. Remove the bottom row of bolts and radiator guard (1) from radiator support assembly (2). 5. Remove the bolts and disconnect the clips and hose assemblies (3) from the radiator support assembly.6. Remove bolts (4) to remove air conditioner condensor (5) from the radiator support assembly. Lay air conditioner condensor (5) against the push block. 7. Disconnect wiring harness (6) from the engine shutdown switch. Remove the clip that holds the wiring harness to the radiator. 8. Remove two bolts and lay coolant conditioner base (7) on the engine.
To prevent possible personal injury, make sure all the pressure is released from the air system before any lines are disconnected.
9. Disconnect hose assembly (8) from the air horn. Remove the bolts and disconnect the clips and hose assembly (8) from the radiator guard. 10. Disconnect elbows (9) on either side of the radiator top tank by removing four bolts. 11. Remove bolts (10) to disconnect the brace assemblies from either side of the radiator support assembly. 12. Disconnect tube (11) from the ether starting aid valve assembly. Disconnect the hoses from air dryer (12). 13. Disconnect wiring harness (13), located at the back side of the radiator support assembly, on the left side of the machine. 14. Remove the bolts and fan guard assemblies (14) from the shield assembly. The left guard must be removed first. Rotate the tight guard 180 degreesand remove it from the left side of the machine. 15. Remove the bolts and disconnect elbow (15) from the bottom radiator tank. Remove the bolts and clips that hold air conditioner hoses (16) to the radiator assembly. 16. Remove bolts (17) that hold the radiator guard to plate assembly (18). 17. Attach Tooling (B) and a hoist to the radiator and radiator support assembly (19). Remove two bolts from each side of the radiator guard that hold it to the machine.Install Radiator Guard And Radiator
1. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist on radiator and radiator guard (1) and put it in position on the machine as shown. Install the two bolts on each side of the radiator guard that hold it. Tighten the bolts to 470 20 N m (347 15 lb ft). 2. Install the bolts that hold plate assembly (2) to the radiator guard. 3. Install a new gasket between elbow (3) and the bottom radiator tank. Install the bolts and clips that hold air conditioner hoses (4) to the radiator assembly. 4. Install guard assemblies (5) on the shield assembly. 5. Connect wiring harness (6) located on the lower left side of the radiator. 6. Connect tube (7) to the ether start valve assembly. Connect airlines (8) to the air dryer. 7. Install brace assemblies (9) to both sides of the radiator guard and the machine. Install and tighten the bolts that hold the brace assemblies to a torque of 250 15 N m (184 11 lb ft). 8. Install the gaskets and connect elbows (10) to the radiator. 9. Connect coolant conditioner element and base (11) to the shield assembly. 10. Connect wiring harness (12) to the engine shutdown switch. Install the clip that holds the wiring harness in place on the radiator core assembly. 11. Connect hose assembly (13) to the air horn.12. Connect the clips and hose assembly (13) to the radiator guard. 13. Put air conditioner condensor (14) in place on the brackets in front of the radiator.14. Connect the clips and hose assemblies to the radiator guard. 15. Fasten Tooling (B) and a hoist on radiator guard assembly (15) and install it on the radiator support assembly with the bottom row of bolts.16. Remove Tooling (B) from the radiator guard and install the remaining bolts the hold the radiator guard on the radiator support assembly.17. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operations and Maintenance Manual.18. Install the front engine hood. Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the hydraulic system and the cooling system.
