Rework Procedure
Refer to the attached illustration for proper orientation of the 5F7404 Nut. A 5P7323 Spanner Socket is needed for this rework.
988F
1. Remove the cap from the hydraulic tank to relieve back pressure. If the hydraulic tank is at or below the full mark, no hydraulic oil needs to be drained.2. Remove the 4E4517 Hood and Guard Group (upper section with the gull wing doors) as one unit. A crane with a 6.1 meter (20 foot) boom will be needed.3. Remove the 4E4506 and 4E4512 Hydraulic Pumps.4. Remove both 4P4975 Power Take Off Adapters in the 4P3581 Rear Gear Group so that the 5P7323 Spanner Socket can be used to remove the 5F7404 Bearing Lock Nut. Be sure to bend back the retaining tab on the 5F7403 Nut Lock before removing the 5P7404 Nut.
5. Using a new 5F7403 Nut Lock, install the 5F7404 Nut as shown in the illustration.6. Tighten the nut to a torque of 406 68 N?m (300 50 lb ft).7. After the lock nut is tightened to the correct torque, bend one of the tabs of the 5F7403 Nut Lock into one of the four slots of the nut. If none of the tabs line up with any of the slots, tighten the nut further until one of the tabs does line up.8. Replace the 2H3935 Seal-O-Rings (the seals between the two hydraulic pumps and the 4P4985 Power Take Off Adaptors) with 6V1195 Seal-O-Rings.9. Finish assembling the machine.990
1. Drain and capture 30 gallons of hydraulic oil from each hydraulic tank.2. Remove the 9U1120 and 9U1112 Cover Assemblies of the 8R5651 Operator Platform Group to gain access to the hydraulic pumps/lines.3. Remove the 6E4657 Pilot Pump (located between the power takeoff adaptors) to gain access to several bolts retaining the hydraulic pumps to the 4P2707 PTO Adapters. Replace the two existing 6V1820 Bolts that retain the pump with two new 1156929 Bolts (12 point 10mm socket). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft).
4. Separate the 6E3321 and 6E5244 Hydraulic Pumps into two sections to gain access to the bolts holding the double hydraulic pumps to the rear of the engine. Use a 30mm socket to remove and install the 6V3531 Bolts (tighten to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 45 lb ft)). Use a 12-point, 20mm socket to remove and install the 9X8906 Bolts (tighten to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 45 lb ft)).
5. Remove the 6E3321 and 6E5244 Hydraulic Pumps.6. Use a 5P7323 Spanner Socket to remove the 5F7404 Bearing Lock Nut. The 4P2707 Power Takeoff Adapters (part of 4P3582 Rear Gear Group) do NOT need to be removed to gain access to the 5F7404 Nuts. Be sure to bend back the retaining tab on the 5F7403 Nut Lock before removing the 5P7404 Nut.
7. Using a new 5F7403 Nut Lock, install the 5F7404 Nut as shown in the illustration.8. Tighten the nut to a torque of 406 68 N?m (300 50 lb ft).9. After the lock nut is tightened to the correct torque, bend one of the tabs of the 5F7403 Nut Lock into one of the four slots of the nut. If none of the tabs line up with any of the slots, tighten the nut further until one of the tabs does line up.10, Replace the 8T7568 O-Rings (seals between the hydraulic pumps and the PTO Adapters) with 1076280 O-Rings.11. Finish assembling the machine.12. Install the hydraulic oil removed in
