Install the original shims (20) if available or shims of a thickness of 0.51 mm (.020 in) as a place to start.17. Use a micrometer and measure the thickness of the impeller (18) and the width of ring (14) to find the difference in dimensions. This difference is used to find the shims needed to get the same amount of clearance on each side of the impeller when it is installed in the pump.18. Install key (19) and impeller (18) on the pump shaft. Install the impeller with the threaded puller holes toward the outside. 19. Install the washer and nut (22). Tighten the nut to a torque of 180 2 N m (133 15 lb ft). Install the cotter pin to hold the nut after Step 20.20. Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance behind the impeller at four locations the same distance apart. Use the average of the four measurements. The correct clearance is 0.20 0.03 mm (.008 .001 in). Make an adjustment to the shims if necessary.21.
