start by: a) remove air inlet manifold 1. Remove the plug from the fuel injection pump housing. Install timing pin (A).2. While turning the crankshaft clockwise, as seen from the front of the engine, push on the timing pin until it slides into the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft.3. Disconnect the wires from switch (1).4. Disconnect linkage (2) from the governor and the bracket.5. Remove fuel lines (3) and (4). Disconnect wire (5) from the wire on the fuel shutoff solenoid.6. Remove the tachometer drive adapter from the front of the timing gear cover.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE7. Remove bolts (6) and the tachometer drive adapter shaft (7). 8. Remove timing plug (8) and bolt (9). Install bolt (9) through the timing gear cover and into the timing hole in the camshaft gear. If the bolt can not be installed, turn the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine until the bolt can be installed. Do not turn the crankshaft backward to install the bolt.9. Remove the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing in place. Fasten a hoist and remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit. The weight is 55 lb. 1. Inspect the O-ring seals that go between the fuel injection pump housing and the cylinder block. Install new seals if needed. 2. Make sure timing pin (A) is installed in the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft. Fasten a hoist and put the fuel injection pump housing and governor in position on the engine. Install bolts (1). Be extra careful not to push the gear for the fuel injection pump camshaft out of alignment with the timing gear during installation of the fuel injection pump housing and governor.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE3. Install the tachometer drive shaft and tighten it by hand. Install bolts (2). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (4.4 0.7 mkg). Tighten the tachometer drive shaft to a torque of 50 10 lb.ft. (6.9 1.4 mkg). If the holes in the gear and the holes in the fuel injection pump camshaft are not in alignment, the timing gear cover must be removed and the gear moved to put the holes in alignment.4. To check the timing, remove timing pin (A) and the timing bolt from the camshaft gear. Turn the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine two full turns and install the timing pin and timing bolt again. If the timing pin or timing bolt can not be installed, the timing gear cover must be removed and the engine put in time. See CAMSHAFT AND GEARS. 5. Remove the timing bolt from the timing hole and install it in the timing gear cover. Install the plug in the timing gear cover. Install tachometer drive adapter (3). 6.
