PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR WATER PUMP SEAL FAILURES IN 3406 (92U) AND 3406B (7FB) TRUCK ENGINES, 1361, PS0322 U-107 O-56 TT-8 This Service Letter replaces the September 11, 1986 Service Letter (PSO231). Cross out the September 11, 1986 Service Letter. The September 11, 1986 Service Letter was not distributed to dealers in Caterpillar Overseas S.A. This Program can only be administered after a failure (leak) occurs. A leak is indicated when there is a continuous and prolonged trickle that causes puddling under the truck when it's parked. A small amount of coolant leakage across the face of the seal is normal and necessary to provide lubrication. When reporting the repair, use "PS0322" as Part Number and "7755" as Group Number. Although products in the field are to be administered as described above, dealers should purge parts stock immediately. Termination Date

Problem
The water pump used on the Affected Product has caused customer dissatisfaction because of a short service life of the water seal. Failures of the water seal can be caused by the use of high silicate antifreeze and/or by a too high concentration of corrosion inhibitors. The customer is expected to maintain the cooling system as recommended in the Operation and Maintenance Management Guide.

Action Required
Parts Stock Remove all 0R1200 and 7W7019 Water Pump Groups from parts stock. Affected Product Perform Steps 1 and 2 before the new water pump is installed. 1. Add 2 liters (2 qt) of 6V4511 Caterpillar Cooling System Cleaner to the radiator. Operate the engine for approximately 30 minutes with the cleaner in solution. 2. Drain and flush the cooling system completely with clean water. 3. Remove the water pump and install the 0R2400 Water Pump Group and seals. 4. Fill the cooling system with Caterpillar antifreeze (or an equivalent) and cooling system inhibitors as recommended in the Operation and Maintenance Management Guide. WARRANTY ALLOWANCES Submit one claim for all 0R1200 and 7W7019 Water Pump Groups removed from parts stock. (SEE ILLUSTRATION)

Return all 0R1200 and 7W7019 Water Pumps removed from parts stock and all failed water pumps according to instructions for warranty return of remanufactured parts.
