2. Loosen hose clamps (2) and disconnect hoses from the elbow.3. Remove the bolts and pulley group, and base (1). 4. Remove bracket assembly (3) from the timing gear cover. 5. Remove the bolts that fasten cover (6) to the timing gear plate.6. Remove the bolts that fasten breather hose clamps (5) to the timing gear cover.7. Loosen radiator upper hose clamps and remove hose (4). 8. Loosen hose clamp (7) and remove tube assembly (8).9. Disconnect water temperature indicator (9).
Typical Example10. Remove bolt and nut (14) that holds the clip to the strap.11. Remove bolts (10), oil pickup tube (11) and the gasket. 12. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the timing gear cover as shown.13. Remove the bolts from the front and back of timing gear cover (13). 14. Loosen bolt (12). Remove timing gear cover (13) and the gasket from the plate. Bolt (12) can not be removed completely, but must be loosened as the timing gear cover is removed. Weight of the timing gear cover is 43 kg (95 lb.).15. Remove the water ferrule, seal and clamp from the top of the timing gear cover.Install Timing Gear Cover
1. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the timing gear cover as shown.2. Inspect the condition of water ferrule and seal (2), and make a replacement if needed. Put water ferrule and seal (2) in position with the adjusting screw of hose clamp (1) toward the top, and approximately 45° to the right of vertical centerline, as seen from the front of the engine. Make sure the seal is installed all the way into the counterbore.
Typical Example3. Clean the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear cover and timing gear plate.4. Install a new gasket. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Cement on the bottom of the gasket where it makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan.5. Put timing gear cover (3) in position on the timing gear plate. Weight of the timing gear cover is 43 kg (95 lb.). Make sure the gear on the engine oil pump is engaged with the crankshaft gear as the timing gear cover is installed. 6. Tighten bolt (4) on the back side of the timing gear plate as the timing gear plate is installed. Install the remainder of the bolts that hold the timing gear cover.
Typical Example7. Put gasket (6) and oil pick-up tube (7) in position on the oil pump, and install the bolts that hold it.8. Install the bolt and nut that holds clip (8) to strap (5). 9. Install tube assembly (10) between the timing gear cover and cylinder head assembly. Tighten the water ferrule seal hose clamp.10. Put gasket and plate (12) in position on the timing gear plate. Install the bolts and nuts that hold it.11. Put the breather hose in position and install clamps (11).12. Install radiator upper hose (9) and the temperature indicator sending unit. 13. Install hoses (15) in position.14. Install bracket assembly (13).15. Install base and idler pulley group (14).16. Fill the engine cooling system with coolant to the correct level.
