2. Remove the four bolts that hold the fan drive bracket (1) to the front of the engine.3. Install tool (A) as shown. Use tool (A) as a support for the fan and fan drive.
Make sure the fan does not cause damage to the radiator core when the fan drive is fastened to tool (A).
4. Remove muffler support (2) and spacers (3) from the cylinder head. 5. Remove bolts (4) that hold the elbow to the cylinder head. Loosen bolts (5) that hold the water pump in place. 6. Install tooling (A). Fasten a hoist to the cylinder head. Remove bolts (6) that hold the cylinder head in place.
Do not put the cylinder head down on a flat surface. This can cause damage to the fuel injection valves.
7. Remove cylinder head (7). The weight is 101 kg (225 lb.). 8. Remove head gasket (8), water ferrules (9) and O-ring seal (10). Always install a new gasket between the spacer plate and cylinder block before the cylinder head is installed. See REMOVE SPACER PLATE.Install Cylinder Head
Be sure a new gasket has been installed between spacer plate and cylinder block. See INSTALL SPACER PLATE. 1. Thoroughly clean the spacer plate and bottom surface of the cylinder head. Install a new head gasket (1), water ferrules (3) and O-ring seal (2) on the hollow dowel. 2. Install tooling (A) on the cylinder head. Fasten a hoist and put cylinder head (4) in position on the spacer plate.3. Install the push rods and put the rocker shaft in position on the cylinder head. See INSTALL ROCKER SHAFT AND PUSH RODS.4. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the cylinder head and rocker shaft bolts. Install the bolts and washers and tighten the bolts as follows: 1. Tighten all bolts in number sequence to a torque of 155 N m (115 lb.ft.). 2. Again tighten all bolts in number sequence to a torque of 250 17 N m (185 13 lb.ft.). 3. Again tighten all bolts in number sequence (hand torque only) to a torque of 250 17 N m (185 13 lb.ft.). 4. Tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 30 N m (22 lb.ft.). 5. Again tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 43 7 N m (32 5 lb.ft.). 6. Again tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 43 7 N m (32 5 lb.ft.).5. Make an adjustment of the valves to have a clearance of 0.38 mm (.015 in.) for the intake and 0.64 mm (.025 in.) for the exhaust. See VALVE CLEARANCE in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 6. Put gasket (5) in place and install bolts (6) and tighten bolts (7). 7. Install spacers (9) and muffler support (8) on the cylinder head.8. Put the fan and fan drive in position against the front of the engine. Remove tool (B) and install the four bolts that hold the fan drive in position.9. Install the valve cover.
