System Schematic For Unexpected Shutdown
Note: A slave relay is used only for 3500 engines with the 2301A Governor and no fuel shutoff solenoid.

Fuel Control Relay For ETR Systems
Note: For 3408 and 3412 engines, the AFCR should be connected to SR terminal 87 instead of the fuel solenoid. The AFCR should be provided with F16.

Fuel Control Relay For ETS Systems
The engine does not shut down when a shutdown fault occurs.
Check for any diagnosed faults.
Check the display area of the GSC for a fault indicator that is FLASHING. Check for a diagnostic code on the upper display. Note: If the fault alarm indicator is ON CONTINUOUSLY, then the GSC is programmed to override the normal shutdown response and the GSC is programmed to treat the condition as an alarm fault. The engine continues to run and the engine is able to start. This is not a problem. To view the setpoints, see Systems Operation, "Engine/Generator Setpoint Viewing OP2". To reprogram the setpoints, see Systems Operation, "Engine/Generator Programming OP5".Expected Result: The engine does not shut down when a shutdown fault occurs. Results:
Not OK - If all fault indicators are OFF and a fault exists that should cause the GSC to shutdown the engine, then proceed to 13.
Not OK - If the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING and the engine remains running. For ETR fuel systems, proceed to 2. For ETS fuel systems, proceed to6. For 3500 engines with a electronic governor, proceed to 12.
System check. The engine remains running and the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING.
Turn the ECS to OFF/RESET. Expected Result: The engine should shut down. Results:
OK - The engine shuts down. The system is functioning properly. Start the engine again. If the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING and the engine does not shut down, replace the GSC. See Testing And Adjusting, "EMCP Electronic Control (Generator Set) - Replace". STOP.
Not OK - The engine does NOT shut down. Proceed to 3.
System check. The engine remains running and the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING.
Push the emergency stop push button (ESPB). Expected Result: The engine should shut down. Results:
OK - The engine shuts down. Therefore, an unwanted voltage is present at RM-15 of the relay module. Check the related wiring for this unwanted short. If no short to ground (B−) is found in the related wiring, then replace the relay module. See Testing And Adjusting, "Relay Module - Replace". STOP.
Not OK - The engine does NOT shut down. Proceed to 4.
ETR System Check (continued). The engine remains running and the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING.
Stop the engine. Turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF.
Remove all wires from terminal TS1-7 in the generator housing.
Turn the ECS to START and attempt to start the engine. Expected Result: The engine should NOT start. Results:
OK - The engine does not start. There is a error in the wiring or there is a short to +battery between TS1-7 and the relay module. On 3408 and 3412 engines, the auxiliary fuel control relay (AFCR) on the subpanel could be faulty. Troubleshoot and repair the wiring. See Testing And Adjusting, "Schematics and Wiring Diagrams". STOP.
Not OK - The engine starts and runs. Proceed to 5.
ETR System Check (continued). The engine remains running and the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING.
Stop the engine. Turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF.
Remove both wires from the fuel solenoid.
Turn the ECS to START and attempt to start the engine. Expected Result: The engine should NOT start. Results:
OK - The engine does not start. Therefore, wire 850 907-OR(Orange) or wire 907 950-OR(Orange) is shorted to +battery in the engine harness. Troubleshoot and repair the wiring. See Testing And Adjusting, "Schematics and Wiring Diagrams". STOP.
Not OK - The engine starts and runs. Therefore, the fuel solenoid is stuck or otherwise faulty. Refer to the Engine Service Manual. STOP.
ETS System Check. This step continues troubleshooting from 1. The engine remains running and the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING.
Stop the engine. Turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF.
Turn the ECS to STOP.
Measure the DC voltage of the batteries. Expected Result: For 24 volt systems, voltage should be from 24.8 to 29.5 DCV. For 32 volt systems, voltage should be from 33.1 to 39.3 DCV. Results:
OK - Proceed to 7.
Not OK - Voltage is NOT correct. See CID 168 in Testing And Adjusting, "Troubleshooting Diagnostic Codes". Note: On ETS fuel systems, if the GSC is turned off and the display area is blank, then the GSC is not able to shutdown the engine. Check for wiring errors in the power connections to the GSC and for discharged batteries.
ETS System Check (continued). The engine remains stopped. The ECS remains in the STOP position.
Push the emergency stop push button (ESPB).
At the fuel solenoid, measure the voltage across the terminals. Note: The emergency stop push button and the fuel control timer module will attempt to provide +battery to the fuel solenoid for 70 seconds. Pull out the emergency stop push button and then push the button in again in order to reset the timer if more time is necessary to complete this step. Expected Result: The voltage should be the same as the system voltage that was noted in 6 2.0 DCV. Results:
OK - The voltage is correct. Therefore, the fuel solenoid is stuck or otherwise faulty. Troubleshoot and repair the faulty solenoid. Refer to the Engine Service Manual. STOP.
Not OK - Voltage
