Start By:a. remove governor fastener groupb. remove accessory drive (front)c. remove oil and water pump drived. remove crankshaft front seal and wear sleevee. remove fuel filter housingf. remove oil filter housing Make sure there is a new crankshaft front seal and wear sleeve before the front drive housing is removed. Anytime the front seal is removed from the wear sleeve, a new seal and sleeve must be installed. 1. Attach a strap and a hoist the oil filter housing support, remove ten bolts and remove oil filter housing support. The weight of the oil filter housing support is 23.6 kg (52 lb).
Typical Example2. Remove elbow (2) and tube (3) as a unit.3. Remove the cover and gasket from opening (1). 4. Remove bolts (6) and use tooling (B) to remove shaft (5). Remove idler gear (4). 5. If necessary, use tooling (C) and a press to remove the bearing from idler gear (4). 6. Remove washer (7).
Typical Example7. Remove bolt (9), the washer, and clip (8). 8. Remove cover (11).9. Remove all of the bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine. Install 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts in each side of the oil pan. Fasten a hoist to the engine and lift the engine approximately 12 mm (0.5 in) off of the oil pan. Put two 50 mm wide x 100 mm long x 6 mm thick (2 in wide x 4 in long x 1/4 in thick) plates in position between the cylinder block and the oil pan on each side of the engine. Lower the engine on the plates and remove the hoist. The weight of the 3512 engine is approximately 5902 kg (13,000 lb). The weight of the 3516 engine is approximately 7718 kg (17,000 lb).
Fuel control linkage (10) must be moved for clearance to pull the front drive housing from the engine or damage to parts can be the result.
10. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to front drive housing (12). Remove bolts (13) and the remainder of the bolts that hold housing (12) in position. Remove front drive housing (12) and the gasket. The weight of the housing is 209 kg (460 lb). The following steps are for installation of the front drive housing. 11. Put the housing gasket in position on the front of the cylinder block. Install 5/8 two "-11 NC guide bolts (14) in the cylinder block.12. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to front drive housing (12). Put housing (12) in position on the guide bolts and install the bolts to hold it in position. Remove guide bolts (14) and install the remainder of the bolts. Tighten all of the bolts evenly and cut the housing gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.13. Fasten a hoist to the engine and lift the engine enough to remove the plates between the cylinder block and the oil pan. If the oil pan gasket is damaged, the engine will have to be removed from the oil pan to make a replacement of the gasket. Lower the engine on the oil pan and remove the guide bolts from the oil pan. Install all of the bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine.14. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal and install cover (11) on the drive housing.15. Install clip (8), the washer, and bolt (9).16. Put washer (7) in position inside the drive housing.17. Use tooling (C) and a press to install the bearing in idler gear (4). Check the bore in the bearing after assembly. The bore in the bearing must be 90.000 0.065 mm (3.5430 .0026 in).18. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal on shaft (5). Install idler gear (4), shaft (5), and bolts (6).19. Install the cover and gasket over opening (1).20. Install elbow (2) and tube (3).21. Install the oil filter housing support and secure it with ten bolts.
